The VEVOR RP8623S is an electric, stand-mounted airless paint sprayer built for larger home painting jobs such as walls, fences, sheds and furniture. Instead of brushing or rolling, it pushes paint through a small tip at high pressure to lay down an even coat quickly. Here is what its specs mean and what to think about before using one.

How an airless sprayer works

An airless sprayer doesn't use an air compressor. A pump pressurises the paint and forces it through a fine tip, which breaks it into a spray. VEVOR rates this model at 3000 PSI and says its piston pump can spray unthinned paint, so you can draw paint straight from the bucket. That's a real convenience, because thinning paint is one of the fussier steps with other sprayer types.

The motor is a 650W (7/8 HP) unit. VEVOR describes it as sprayer-grade for faster coverage than a roller or brush, with a softer spray aimed at a consistent finish. The brand gives a recommended annual use of 125 gallons, which puts it in the home and DIY range rather than daily professional use. If you expect to paint for a living, that figure is worth reading closely.

Adjustable pressure

A control valve knob adjusts the output pressure. Lower pressure generally suits thin materials and fine work, such as stain on furniture, while higher pressure is needed for thicker paints on large surfaces. VEVOR says that controlling the pressure also cuts down on overspray and spills, and it quotes a figure of up to 55% less. Treat that as the brand's own claim, since results depend on the paint, the tip and your technique.

Hose, tip and extension rod

The sprayer has a 25 ft (7.6 m) hose, so the unit can stay in one spot while you move around a room or along a fence. It comes with a 517 tip and an 11.8 in (30 cm) tip extension rod. The extension helps with ceilings, soffits, high walls, overhangs and decks, and VEVOR says it cuts down on ladder use and fatigue. In general, the last two digits of a tip number indicate the size of the opening and the first digit indicates the fan width, so a 517 is typically a medium-size opening for many latex paints.

Paints it handles and cleaning

VEVOR lists water-based and oil-based paints, including latex, chalk paint, stain, sealer and varnish. Cleaning is done by running water or solvent, depending on the paint, through the sprayer until it runs clear. A cleaning kit is included to brush away dust and help the spray gun last longer. Cleaning properly after every session matters with any airless sprayer, because dried paint in the pump or tip is hard to remove.

Size and weight

The unit measures about 11.2 x 11.2 x 14.6 inches (28 x 28 x 37 cm) and weighs 14.9 lb (about 6.8 kg), light enough to carry from room to room.

What to check before you buy

  • Project size: compare your yearly paint use with the 125 gal/year recommendation.
  • Your paint: check that the paint's thickness and type suit the sprayer and tip, as the manual describes.
  • Masking: airless spray travels far, so plan on covering floors, windows and anything you don't want painted.
  • Power: it needs a suitable outlet, and an extension cord, if used, should be rated for the load.
  • Cleaning supplies: have water or the right solvent ready, depending on the paint.
  • Protective gear: follow the manual for a respirator, eye protection and ventilation, and for handling a high-pressure spray gun.
