The VEVOR AP-999 is a clamshell heat press with a 15 x 15 inch plate and automatic pressing. It applies heat and pressure to a transfer on fabric or another surface, which is how sublimation prints and heat-transfer vinyl are fixed to T-shirts, tote bags and similar items. The "auto" part means the machine closes, counts down and releases on its own.
What "auto" means here
According to VEVOR, you place the material, close the lid and press Start. The press adjusts its pressure, presses, counts down and releases. The brand says this takes about 50% less manual effort than a press you close by hand, which is useful when you are doing many transfers in a row or find a manual lever tiring.
Heat and pressure
The plate is heated by dual tubes, which VEVOR says gives fast, even heat over the whole 15 x 15 inch area. Even heat matters because cold spots lead to patchy transfers. Pressure is up to 231 lb, and the controls offer three pressure levels. The clearance above the plate is 2.17 inches, which leaves room for slightly thicker items.
In general, sublimation and vinyl each have their own recommended temperature, time and pressure, which are usually printed on the paper or vinyl packaging. Following those figures matters more than the press's maximum.
Controls and presets
A digital screen and knobs set the three variables:
- Temperature: 32-410°F (0-210°C).
- Pressure: three levels.
- Time: 0-999 seconds.
There are two preset modes and two custom slots to save settings for different projects, so you don't re-enter them each time. The press shuts off automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity, and pressing any button stops the heating and lifts the plate.
Materials it works on
VEVOR lists fabric, wood and ceramics for lasting transfers, with T-shirts, totes, apparel and wood signs as examples. Sublimation usually works best on polyester or polymer-coated items, so check that your blanks suit the process you plan to use.
Size and what's included
The steel body measures about 20.1 x 15.7 x 14.2 inches (51 x 40 x 36 cm) and weighs about 39.7 lb (18 kg), so it fits on a workbench or shelf but isn't a portable press. The kit includes a sheet of sublimation paper and a heat-resistant cloth, which VEVOR says allows creating straight out of the box.
Who it suits
It suits hobbyists starting a craft business, small print shops and anyone making personalised shirts, bags and signs in batches. For small curved items such as hats, a dedicated cap press is usually a better match.
What to check before you buy
- Plate size: make sure your designs fit within 15 x 15 inches.
- Thickness: items must fit under the 2.17 inch clearance.
- Materials: confirm that your blanks are suitable for sublimation or vinyl, as appropriate.
- Workspace: allow a stable surface for about 40 lb and room for the lid to open.
- Power: check the supply requirements in the manual.
- Heat safety: the plate gets very hot, so follow the manual and use the heat-resistant cloth.
