The Garvee 6-in-1 is a heat press combo for transferring designs onto fabric and other surfaces. A swing-away 12 x 15 inch press handles T-shirts and hoodies, and the set adds attachments for caps, two mug sizes and two small flat plates. It is aimed at hobbyists and small craft businesses who want one kit for several products.
How a heat press works
A heat press applies heat and pressure for a set time to bond a transfer to a surface. Sublimation, the process named in the listing, uses special ink and paper: heat turns the ink into a gas that bonds with polyester fabric or polymer-coated items such as mugs. Settings for temperature and time depend on the transfer material, so the instructions that come with your paper or vinyl always take priority.
The 12 x 15 inch swing-away press
The main press has a die-cast aluminium heating plate with a non-stick Teflon coating, which Garvee says protects garments from scorching. Its 360° swing-away design uses a bottom guide rail, so the heating element can be moved aside when you position the garment. Garvee says this reduces the chance of accidental contact with the hot plate. A silicone pad and a sponge pad underneath are meant to give a flatter, more even press.
Dual heating tubes
Two built-in heating tubes are intended to spread heat more evenly across the plate, so the design transfers consistently. Garvee also says new materials make the machine about 4 pounds lighter than comparable presses, which helps if you need to move it. The machine is rated at 800W.
The digital control box
A large display shows temperature and time. The range is 0 to 482°F (0 to 250°C) for temperature and 0 to 999 seconds for time. The controller stops heating when the preset temperature is reached and sounds an alarm when the timer ends. Garvee also lists a counting function and quick switching between three modes.
What's in the set
The combo includes the 12 x 15 inch T-shirt press, a hat press, 11oz and 6oz mug presses, and two flat presses (8 and 10 inch). Also listed are a roll of adhesive tape, 20 sheets of thermal sublimation paper, a screwdriver, two thermal insulation pads and a user manual. The unit measures about 12 x 12 x 15 inches.
Who it suits
It suits people making custom T-shirts, caps, mugs and plates for themselves, for events or for small shops. If you only plan to press shirts, a press without the extras may be enough.
What to check before you buy
- Materials: check that your transfer paper, ink or vinyl suits the temperatures and times you expect to use.
- Blanks: sublimation mugs, plates and fabrics usually need a suitable coating or polyester content.
- Space and power: allow bench room for the swing-away arm, and check your outlet against the 800W power figure.
- Safety: the plate gets very hot, so follow the manual and keep it away from children.
- Attachments: check that mug and cap sizes match what you plan to press.
- Parts and upkeep: check how to clean the plate and where to find spare pads.
