The VEVOR 8KW electric tankless water heater heats water only when a tap is open, instead of keeping a tank hot all day. It is a compact wall-mounted unit aimed at a kitchen sink, a bathroom, a salon or a small commercial space. Here is what the specifications mean and what to plan for before installing one.
How a tankless heater works
A conventional tank heater warms and holds dozens of litres of water. A tankless unit has no tank: when water flows through it, the heating element switches on and raises the temperature as the water passes. VEVOR says the 8kW system delivers hot water within seconds, with no preheating, at temperatures from 86 to 140°F (30 to 60°C) or higher.
Because it only heats while water is running, there is no standby heat loss from a stored tank. Hot water also doesn't run out the way a tank can, though the output is limited by the heater's power and the incoming water temperature.
The heating element
VEVOR describes a cast aluminum heater that keeps the water and the electrical parts separate, and rates it as scale and corrosion resistant. Scale is mineral build-up that forms in hard-water areas, so it is worth knowing how hard your water is and what upkeep the manual suggests.
Touch controls and temperature
An LED display and touch controls let you set the target temperature. A built-in thermostat function aims to hold that temperature, so the shower doesn't swing between hot and cold. VEVOR also lists over-temperature protection, which is designed to cut heating if the water gets hotter than it should.
What 8kW means in practice
Power determines how much water can be raised by how many degrees. As a general rule, a higher-kilowatt unit can heat a larger flow by the same amount. An 8kW unit typically suits a single point of use, such as a sink or a small shower, better than a whole house in a cold climate. Your incoming water temperature and flow rate decide how warm the output will be.
Installation requirements
The unit is wall-mounted and measures about 9.7 x 3.3 x 14.0 inches (25 x 8 x 36 cm). It weighs 6.8 lb (about 3.1 kg). Water connections are 1/2-inch NPT for the inlet and outlet.
The electrical needs are significant. VEVOR states that installation requires a 40A circuit breaker and 10AWG power cable, and it recommends professional help. Follow local electrical and plumbing codes and the manual, and have a qualified electrician check that your panel can supply the load.
Who it suits
It suits a remote sink, a workshop, a salon, a small business or a bathroom far from the main water heater, where waiting for hot water is a nuisance. VEVOR also describes it as suitable for larger households and commercial settings, but check the flow you need against the unit's capacity.
What to check before you buy
- Electrical capacity: confirm your panel can supply a dedicated 40A circuit.
- Wiring: the listing calls for 10AWG cable; an electrician can confirm what your local code requires.
- Flow and temperature rise: compare how many outlets will run at once with a single 8kW unit.
- Connections: check that 1/2-inch NPT fittings suit your plumbing.
- Water quality: ask about hard water and the cleaning the manual describes.
- Wall space: make sure the wall can carry the unit and leaves room for the connections.
The short version
- An 8kW electric tankless water heater that heats water on demand.
- Temperatures from 86 to 140°F or higher, set on an LED touch display.
- Cast aluminum heating element, thermostat function and over-temperature protection.
- Wall-mounted, 6.8 lb, with 1/2-inch NPT connections.
- Needs a 40A breaker and 10AWG cable; professional installation is recommended.
