Casters turn a workbench, shelving unit, cart or piece of equipment into something you can roll where it's needed. The VEVOR 6-inch heavy duty caster set includes four polyurethane wheels on steel top plates, two fixed and two swivelling, with side brakes to hold the load in place. It's aimed at workshops, garages, warehouses and similar spaces.
Two rigid and two swivel casters
The set is split evenly. The two rigid casters roll in one direction only, which keeps a load tracking straight. The two swivel casters rotate 360 degrees, so the load can turn and change direction. VEVOR says the side brakes can lock the wheels.
This mix is a common arrangement for carts and workbenches. The rigid pair usually goes at one end and the swivel pair at the other, much like a trolley, so the piece can be steered by pushing from the swivel end. Using four swivel casters gives more freedom to move sideways but makes a long, heavy item harder to keep straight.
What the 1,000 lb figure means
VEVOR rates each caster at up to 1,000 lb, which makes 4,000 lb across the set. That is a maximum for the hardware under ideal conditions. In practice, loads are rarely shared perfectly between four wheels, especially on uneven floors, so many people leave a good margin and work to a figure well below the total. Add the weight of the item itself, not just what's on it.
The wheels use double ball bearings. In general, ball bearings reduce the effort needed to start a load moving and to keep it rolling.
Polyurethane wheels
Each wheel is 6 inches (about 15 cm) in diameter and 2 inches (about 5 cm) wide. VEVOR describes the polyurethane as non-marking, shock-absorbing and wear-resistant, and says the wheels roll smoothly and quietly without leaving scuffs. Polyurethane is typically firmer than soft rubber but kinder to floors than hard plastic or metal, which is why it's popular for workshop and warehouse floors. A larger diameter generally rolls over small cracks and debris more easily than a small one.
Bracket and mounting
The body is galvanized steel plate, 5.5 mm thick according to VEVOR, which the brand says resists corrosion and dust. The top plate measures 4.5 x 4 x 0.2 inches (about 11.4 x 10.2 x 0.5 cm) and has four mounting holes. Four fixing points spread the load and help keep the caster from loosening, as long as the bolts and the surface they go into are strong enough.
The full set weighs about 33 lb (15 kg) with packaging, so each caster is a solid piece of hardware.
Where it fits
VEVOR lists workshops, garages, warehouses, kitchens and offices as places to use the casters. Typical jobs include mobile workbenches, tool chests, equipment stands, shelving racks and platform trolleys. The top plate should be fastened to something sturdy, such as a thick wooden frame or a steel frame, rather than thin board.
What to check before you buy
- Load: add up the item and everything it will carry, then compare it with the per-caster limit, leaving a margin.
- Mounting surface: check that the base is strong enough to take four bolts, and that the hole spacing suits your frame.
- Height: casters add to the overall height, so check the clearance under the item and the working height you want.
- Floor: polyurethane suits most hard floors, but check how it behaves on very rough or outdoor surfaces.
- Brakes: the listing mentions side brakes on the wheels. Confirm how many wheels lock and test them with the load on.
- Fasteners: bolts and nuts aren't mentioned in the package contents, so you may need to supply your own.
The short version
- Four 6 x 2 inch polyurethane casters: two rigid, two swivel, with side brakes.
- Rated by VEVOR at 1,000 lb each, 4,000 lb for the set.
- Galvanized steel plate with four mounting holes on a 4.5 x 4 inch top plate.
- Double ball bearings and non-marking wheels, according to the brand.
- Suits workshop, garage and warehouse equipment; allow for load and mounting needs.
