The VEVOR SSC4 is a kit of four heavy-duty 3-way corner brackets for building a pergola, gazebo or similar timber frame. Each bracket joins three pieces of 4 x 4 timber at a corner, so a DIY builder can cut beams to length, slot them in and screw the frame together. It is meant to take care of the corner joints without extra hardware.

What a 3-way bracket does

A 3-way bracket holds three beams meeting at a corner, typically two horizontals and one vertical post. The steel sleeves cover the ends of the wood. VEVOR says the full-coverage design shields the timber from rainwater and sun, helping prevent rot. It also has drainage holes in the base to help water escape.

Which timber fits

The bracket is made for "4 x 4" lumber. Nominal 4 x 4 timber is typically a little smaller in reality, and VEVOR gives the inner size as 3.6 x 3.6 inches (92 x 92 mm), for both softwood and hardwood. Measure your actual wood before buying, because timber that is planed differently, rough sawn or treated may be thicker.

Steel and finish

The brackets are made of 2 mm carbon steel plate with a black powder coating for corrosion resistance. A reinforced 90-degree boot structure is intended to prevent breakage and deformation. The package measures about 8.7 x 8.7 x 6 inches and weighs 20.7 lb (about 9.4 kg).

Screws and installation

The listing mentions both 48 drill-tail screws (M4.8 x 50 mm) and 80 drill-tail screws, so check the exact count in the box. An installation guide is included. VEVOR's steps are: cut the wood to length, insert it into the brackets, tighten, and then secure the assembled structure with posts to the base.

Sunshade sail option

Grommet holes let you attach a sunshade sail. VEVOR says this can block direct sun and keep belongings drier under the frame. A sail catches wind like a sheet, so the structure and its footings need to be built to handle that load. Follow local building rules.

Who it suits

It suits DIY builders and professionals making a 4 x 4 timber pergola, a patio cover or a log cabin porch. Posts must be anchored properly to a solid base, since the brackets join the frame but do not replace footings.

What to check before you buy

  • Timber dimensions: measure the real thickness of your posts against 3.6 x 3.6 inches.
  • Number of corners: the kit has four brackets, which suits one four-post layout.
  • Base and footings: plan how the posts are anchored; the brackets do not do this.
  • Permits and codes: check local rules for structures, snow and wind loads.
  • Tools: a drill or driver suited to drill-tail screws.
