The Garvee ZBK175 is a portable forced air heater that burns kerosene or diesel and blows the warm air out with a fan. Heaters like this are made for large, open, well-ventilated spaces such as construction sites, barns, warehouses and workshops, where a household heater would barely make a difference. It runs from a 120V/60Hz supply for the fan and controls.
What 175,000 BTU means
BTU is a measure of heat output per hour. At 175,000 BTU, this is a large, industrial-scale unit. Garvee says it heats areas up to 1,060 m³, which is volume, so it combines floor area and ceiling height. Insulation, doors left open and outdoor temperature all affect how well any heater keeps up, so the figure is a guide.
Direct-fired heating and ventilation
Forced air kerosene heaters of this type are generally direct-fired, meaning combustion gases are released into the space being heated. This is why Garvee describes the heater as suited to well-ventilated sites. Always follow the manual, local codes and fire regulations on ventilation, clearances, fuel storage and carbon monoxide detection before using any fuel-burning heater.
Fuels
Garvee lists K-1 kerosene, Diesel #1, Diesel #2, Fuel Oil #1 and Fuel Oil #2 as compatible, and recommends K-1 kerosene for the best performance. In general, cleaner fuels burn more cleanly and reduce soot and nozzle problems, and heavier diesel grades can thicken in very cold weather.
Tank and runtime
The tank holds 13.5 gallons (50 L), and Garvee says this gives up to eight hours of continuous heating. Runtime depends on the setting, so treat eight hours as the upper figure.
Thermostat and gauge
A built-in thermostat controls the burner so the heater cycles to hold a chosen temperature instead of running flat out. A pressure gauge is also built in; on this type of heater it typically shows fuel pump pressure, which the manual explains how to read.
Safety systems
The listing names four protective features: overheat auto-shutdown, flameout protection, a reinforced safety guard and the thermostat and gauge mentioned above. These are the brand's description. They do not replace safe placement away from flammable materials, supervision, and correct fuelling as set out in the manual.
Build and operating range
Garvee says the body combines stainless steel and cold-rolled plate. It gives an operating range from -25°C to 65°C (-13°F to 149°F), which matters for sites in cold climates. The unit measures about 41.7 x 21.3 x 22.6 inches (roughly 106 x 54 x 57 cm) and weighs 58.4 lb (about 26.5 kg), so it can be moved by hand but is not a light item.
Who it suits
It suits tradespeople, farmers and workshop owners who need to heat a large, open space for long periods and have good airflow. It is not designed for sleeping areas or sealed, occupied rooms.
What to check before you buy
- Where you will use it: confirm the space is well ventilated and that local rules allow fuel-burning heaters there.
- Fuel supply: decide which fuel you will use and how you will keep it safely.
- Power: it needs a 120V/60Hz outlet; check cable length and the circuit.
- Clearances: leave the distances from walls, tarps and materials that the manual specifies.
- Detectors and extinguisher: keep a working carbon monoxide alarm and a fire extinguisher nearby.
- Upkeep: nozzle, filter and fuel-line maintenance is normal on these heaters; check the manual's schedule.
The short version
