The ECO-WORTHY 4-string PV combiner box brings the output of several solar panel strings together in one enclosure before the power goes on to a charge controller or inverter. It is a part for solar installations, particularly off-grid, RV and small home systems, and it provides a tidy, protected place to join the wiring.

What a combiner box does

When a solar array has more than one string of panels, each string's cable has to be joined somewhere. A combiner box does that in a weather-resistant enclosure, usually adding fuses or breakers so that each string and the combined output are protected. That makes the wiring neater, simplifies fault finding and allows the system to be shut off at one point.

Inputs, fuses and breaker

This model, listed as model L03040401017-1, takes four PV inputs. ECO-WORTHY lists the following:

  • A 250V, 63A PV DC circuit breaker on the combined output.
  • 10A PV fuses on the strings, with 9AWG cables.
  • A maximum of 10A for each single PV input.

The listing explains the sizing rule: the single-panel current multiplied by about 1.52 (a standard safety margin) and the voltage should stay within 10A and 250Vdc. For example, ECO-WORTHY says 100W 12V panels of its own brand can support a system of up to 400W in a 12V setup, 800W at 24V and 1,600W at 48V. Always check your panel's short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage against the limits.

Lightning arrester and weather protection

The box includes a lightning arrester, along with reverse-current protection. It carries an IP65 protection class, which in general means dust-tight and protected against water jets, so it's designed for outdoor mounting. ECO-WORTHY describes it as suitable for solar systems and RVs. A surge arrester reduces the risk from nearby lightning surges but doesn't guarantee protection, and proper grounding remains essential.

Installation

The cables are pre-connected, and the lid opens with a mounting buckle without a key, which ECO-WORTHY describes as plug-and-play. It measures 8.7 x 6.7 x 4.3 inches and weighs 3.6 lb, and mounts on any regular flat surface. Ensure you follow the manual for connectors, polarity and torque on terminals.

Who it suits

It suits DIY solar owners and installers with multiple panel strings, especially on small systems with strings of 10A or less.

What to check before you buy

  • String current and voltage: confirm each string stays within 10A and 250Vdc, including cold-weather voltage.
  • Number of strings: the box has four inputs, so plan for that.
  • Connectors: check your panel connector type matches, or plan adapters.
  • Grounding: follow local codes for grounding and surge protection.
  • Location: mount it where it's accessible, shaded where possible and sealed properly.
  • Qualified help: solar DC wiring can carry high voltages, so consider having a qualified electrician check the work.

The short version

  • A four-string PV combiner box for solar panel systems.
  • 250V 63A DC breaker, 10A fuses and 9AWG pre-connected cables.
  • Lightning arrester, reverse-current protection and an IP65 enclosure.
  • Up to 10A per string input.
  • Key-free latch for opening the box.
