The Garvee commercial refrigerated condiment prep station is a long, low countertop unit that keeps toppings and ingredients cold in rows of pans, ready for assembly. It is the kind of equipment used along a sandwich, salad or burger line in cafes and small kitchens. Here is what the listed specs mean.

How the cooling works

Garvee says the unit uses a 150W compressor with R290 refrigerant, a 14-tube copper condenser and high-density foam insulation. R290 is propane, a refrigerant commonly used in small commercial refrigeration. The unit runs on 115V, 60Hz power with a rated current of 1.95A, which is in the range of a standard household-style outlet. Always follow the manual on power and ventilation.

Temperature control and defrost

A digital LCD display controls the temperature, adjustable from 35°F to 46°F (about 2°C to 8°C). An automatic defrost system limits frost build-up, which usually means less manual maintenance. Local food-safety rules set required holding temperatures, so confirm what applies to you.

Pans and covers

The station comes with four 1/3-size and four 1/6-size pans in 304 stainless steel, which Garvee calls food-grade. These are standard gastronomy pan sizes, so a 1/3 pan holds roughly a third of a full-size pan's footprint. Clear polycarbonate covers keep dust off. The pans are removable for cleaning.

Layout and use

The modular arrangement of pans lets you group condiments, vegetables, fruit and salad ingredients by type. Garvee lists kitchens, cafes and catering venues as the target uses, and also refers to a home salad bar or sandwich prep.

Size

The unit measures 58.3 inches long, 15.9 inches deep and 11 inches high (about 148 x 40 x 28 cm), and weighs about 88 lb (40 kg). The low profile suits a counter where space for a full prep table is lacking. The listing gives the pan capacity as 31.6 quarts.

Certification

Garvee says the unit has ETL certification for US commercial safety and quality standards. Your local health authority may have separate requirements.

Who it suits

It suits small cafes, food trucks with suitable power, sandwich counters and caterers, and a home user who wants a serious salad bar setup.

What to check before you buy

  • Counter space: measure 58.3 inches of length and the depth, and leave room around vents.

  • Pan needs: check that the 1/3 and 1/6 pan mix suits your ingredients.
  • Health rules: check local requirements for refrigerated equipment.
  • Cleaning: plan for pan washing and cleaning the condenser area.
  • Weight: two people may be needed to lift it.
