VEVOR 15HP 11kW 50A VFD: features, specs and what it can drive

A 15 HP, 11 kW variable frequency drive that takes single- or 3-phase 220V input and outputs 3-phase 220V, with PID water-supply control and built-in braking.

The VEVOR 15HP 11kW 50A VFD is a variable frequency drive, a controller that sets the speed of a three-phase AC motor by changing the frequency and voltage it receives. It accepts single-phase or three-phase 220V input and outputs three-phase 220V, so it can run a three-phase motor in a workshop that only has single-phase supply, subject to the checks below.

What a VFD does

A three-phase induction motor normally runs at a speed set by the mains frequency. A VFD converts the incoming power to DC and rebuilds it as three-phase output at a frequency you choose. Lower frequency means a slower motor; higher means faster. This gives smooth starting, adjustable speed and, typically, less mechanical stress than a direct-on-line start.

Power and input

The drive is built for 11 kW (15 HP) motors, with a 50A current figure. It takes single- or three-phase 220V input and delivers three-phase 220V output. Motor voltage matters: the drive output needs to match the motor's rated voltage, so check the motor nameplate. Drives that accept single-phase input are often derated, so confirm the current and supply capacity in the manual before connecting a motor at the top of the range.

Low-speed torque and frequency range

VEVOR says the drive applies automatic torque compensation at low frequencies, which helps it hold load at low speed. In V/f mode, the output range is 0 to 2000 Hz. V/f control keeps the ratio of voltage to frequency constant, and is the standard mode for general-purpose drives. Most motors are designed for use at their nameplate frequency or below, and high-frequency output is mainly for specialised spindles, so check what your motor allows.

Built-in PID for constant-pressure water supply

A PID controller adjusts motor speed to hold a measured value steady. VEVOR includes a PID function for constant-pressure water supply, so with a pressure sensor the drive can vary pump speed to hold pressure without an external PLC. It also supports Modbus 485 communication, a widely used serial protocol that lets a PLC or other controller read and set drive values. A built-in braking unit is also listed; it works with an external braking resistor to absorb energy when a heavy load decelerates.

Protections and cooling

The listing names protection against overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overheating and phase loss. The housing is durable, and an aluminium heat sink helps shed heat. Drives still need airflow around them, so follow the manual on mounting space and ventilation.

Typical uses

VEVOR lists automotive lifts, air compressors, water pumps, constant-pressure water supply systems and engraving machines. It also mentions three-phase asynchronous AC motors and spindle motors. It measures 13.5 x 7.9 x 8.6 inches and weighs 17.6 lb.

Who it suits

It suits workshops, pump installations and machine builders who need speed control or three-phase output from a 220V supply. Wiring a drive involves high voltage, so installation by a qualified electrician, in line with local electrical codes and the manual, is the standard advice.

What to check before you buy

  • Motor match: confirm the motor's voltage, current and phase against the drive's 11 kW / 50A figures.
  • Supply: check whether your supply is single- or three-phase and whether the circuit can carry the current.
  • Braking resistor: if your load needs braking, check what the manual says about the resistor.
  • Sensors and wiring: pressure control needs a suitable sensor; Modbus use needs compatible equipment.
  • Mounting: allow space for cooling and an appropriate enclosure.
  • Codes: follow local electrical codes and the manual.

The short version

  • A 15 HP / 11 kW / 50A variable frequency drive.
  • Single- or 3-phase 220V input; 3-phase 220V output.
  • Automatic low-frequency torque compensation; V/f output of 0 to 2000 Hz.
  • Built-in PID for constant-pressure water supply, Modbus 485 and a braking unit.
  • Protections listed for overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overheating and phase loss.
