The VEVOR 1 Ton Manual Arbor Press (model APR-1) is a benchtop press operated by a hand lever. It lets you apply controlled, straight-line force for small jobs such as stamping, punching, riveting and forming, without needing a hydraulic or powered machine. This page explains what its specs mean and what kind of work it suits.
What an arbor press does
An arbor press turns a swing of the lever into a downward push through a rack-and-pinion ram. Because the force is applied in a straight line, work stays aligned, which is why arbor presses are used for pressing in small bushings, setting rivets and stamping marks into leather or soft metal. VEVOR rates this model at a maximum working pressure of 1 ton.
The listing names tasks such as stamping leather and aluminum, jewellery and handicraft production, and ID card production. A 1-ton press is a light-duty tool, so it suits small parts and thin materials rather than heavy fabrication.
Stroke, throat and ram dimensions
The numbers set what will fit under the ram:
- Maximum working stroke: 5.9 inches (150 mm).
- Ram length: 8.9 inches (225 mm).
- Throat depth: 3.2 inches (81 mm), the distance from the ram to the column, which limits how far into a workpiece the press can reach.
- Ram bore: 0.4 inches (10 mm), the hole in the ram that holds tooling.
- Anvil plate: 3.5 inches (90 mm) in diameter, steel, with four holes.
The four-hole plate helps with pressing out pins or supporting parts that have a stem or a hole through them, since the stem can pass through the opening.
Handwheel, lever and drifts
A handwheel raises or lowers the ram so you can set the starting height for the thickness of your workpiece, then use the lever for the pressing stroke. VEVOR says the longer lever lets you apply more force with less effort, that the lever position can be adjusted and locked, and that non-slip rubber sleeves give a secure grip.
Three drifts are included: flat, pointed and round. Drifts are the tools fitted into the ram bore. A flat one pushes evenly across a surface, a pointed one marks or centres, and a round one drives pins and similar parts. Other tooling that matches the 0.4-inch bore can typically be fitted for stamping or cutting.
Cast-iron build
The body is cast iron, which VEVOR says is designed for long-term use without deformation or fracture. Cast iron is a common choice for presses because its weight and rigidity keep the frame steady under load. The press has an anti-rust coating, and the anvil plate is polished with no sharp edges, as the brand describes it.
At about 26 lb (11.8 kg) and 9.5 x 8.3 x 11.4 inches (240 x 210 x 290 mm), it is heavy for its size, which helps stability but means you will want a fixed spot on a sturdy bench.
Who it suits
It suits hobbyists, leatherworkers, jewellery makers and small workshops that need repeatable, aligned pressing on small parts. It is not meant for heavy structural work or jobs that need much more than a ton of force.
What to check before you buy
- Workpiece size: compare your parts with the 5.9-inch stroke, 3.2-inch throat and 3.5-inch anvil plate.
- Tooling fit: confirm your stamps or punches match the 0.4-inch (10 mm) ram bore.
- Force needed: make sure your task is comfortably within the 1-ton capacity.
- Mounting: plan a sturdy bench, and check the base for mounting holes.
- Upkeep: keep the rack and ram clean and lightly oiled as the manual advises.
- What's in the box: one arbor press and three drifts.
