The VEVOR 1/2-inch air impact wrench is a compressed-air tool for loosening and tightening stubborn nuts and bolts, the kind of work that comes up in auto repair, maintenance and assembly. It ships as a kit with an 11-piece socket set and a carrying case. Because it runs on air, it needs a compressor, and the right one matters as much as the wrench itself.
What a twin hammer mechanism does
An impact wrench doesn't just turn a fastener steadily. Inside, a hammer strikes an anvil in rapid bursts, which delivers short pulses of high torque that can break a stuck nut free without the user having to fight the reaction force. VEVOR says its twin hammer design delivers up to 1,400 foot-pounds of torque (roughly 1,900 N·m). That is a peak figure, and the torque you get at the nut depends on air supply, the socket and the condition of the fastener.
Air supply: the part to plan around
VEVOR recommends a minimum working airflow of 90 PSI and 6.5 CFM, and says that reaching the tool's full capability takes a higher pressure of up to 120 PSI. The brand notes that low pressure leads to reduced power.
In practice, PSI is the pressure and CFM is the volume of air per minute. Impact wrenches use a lot of air in bursts, so a small compressor with a small tank may keep up for a few bolts and then slow while it refills. Hose diameter and fittings also affect how much air reaches the tool.
Weight and handling
The wrench is listed at 4.6 lb (about 2.1 kg) for the tool itself, and VEVOR describes a top-in-class power-to-weight ratio meant to reduce hand fatigue. The shipping weight, including the sockets and case, is listed as 8.6 lb. A lighter tool is easier to hold in tight spots or overhead, though it also means less mass to absorb the hammering.
Torque control and lubrication
A four-position regulator combines forward/reverse selection with power management. Having several power levels is useful because full torque isn't always wanted: it helps avoid over-tightening smaller fasteners or stripping threads.
Air tools need oil to keep their internal parts moving. VEVOR includes a lubrication adaptor, which it says helps extend the tool's service life by making it easier to add oil regularly. Check the manual for the oil type and how often to add it.
What's in the kit
- The 1/2-inch air impact wrench
- An 11-piece impact socket set in CR-V (chrome-vanadium) steel, in metric sizes of 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 19, 21, 24 and 27 mm
- A 5-inch extension bar
- A carrying case
Impact-rated sockets are made from tougher steel than standard chrome sockets because they absorb repeated hammering. Standard sockets aren't designed for this kind of use.
Who it suits
It suits home mechanics and small workshops that already have an air compressor and want to do wheel nuts, suspension bolts, and general disassembly faster. It is less suited to anyone without an air supply, since the wrench doesn't run on batteries or mains power.
What to check before you buy
- Compressor output: check that yours can supply the recommended 90 PSI and 6.5 CFM, and ideally more for sustained use.
- Fittings and hose: confirm the air inlet thread matches your hose connectors, or plan on an adapter.
- Socket sizes: the included set is metric only; check whether your fasteners are metric or imperial.
- Eye and ear protection: air tools are loud, and fasteners and debris can fly. Follow the manual's guidance.
- Upkeep: plan for regular oiling and for draining moisture from your compressor tank.
