The Veise VSL01 is a keyless smart deadbolt for a front door. It replaces the usual key with a fingerprint reader and a touchscreen keypad, and it can also be opened from a phone, a fob or, as a fallback, a mechanical key. It is aimed at households that want to stop carrying keys or hand out access without cutting copies.
Seven ways to open the door
Veise lists seven access methods: fingerprint, app, fobs, code, eKey and a mechanical key, and says it is compatible with Apple Watch. Having several methods matters because people prefer different ones. A child may find a code easier than a phone, and a visitor can be given a temporary code without installing anything. The physical key is the backup if the batteries run flat.
How many people it can handle
Veise says the lock stores up to 50 fingerprints and 250 user codes. For a single household that is far more than needed, but it makes sense for a rental, a home office or a family with regular helpers. Codes can be generated remotely and shared as one-time, permanent, recurring or scheduled codes, so a cleaner might get a code that only works on Tuesday mornings.
Everyday features
The brand names a long set of behaviours:
- Auto lock and one-touch lock: the bolt can throw itself after a delay, or lock when you touch the keypad.
- Anti-peeping passcode: typically this lets you enter extra digits around your real code so someone watching can't easily read it.
- Wrong-entry limit: the keypad pauses after repeated failed attempts.
- Privacy, silent and passage modes: privacy mode restricts normal entry, silent mode turns off the beeps, and passage mode keeps the door unlocked for periods of heavy traffic.
- Low battery alarm: a warning before the cells run out.
Veise also describes the lock as waterproof and resistant to heat and cold, which matters on a door exposed to weather. Check the manual for the exact protection level and temperature range.
Remote control with the gateway
On its own, the lock works with the fingerprint, keypad, fob and key. For remote management, Veise points to its G2 gateway, which is sold separately. With the gateway, the brand says you can change passcodes from anywhere, see a real-time access log, receive notifications, and use voice control through Alexa and Google Assistant. Without it, expect to be near the door for most management tasks.
Installation and fit
Veise says installation needs only a screwdriver and that the lock fits most standard US doors. The unit measures about 2.7 x 3.0 x 6.1 inches (roughly 7 x 7.6 x 15.5 cm) and weighs 1.3 lb (about 0.6 kg). The brand adds lifetime technical support and email after-sales service. As with any deadbolt, follow the manual and any local building or fire codes for door hardware.
Who it suits
It suits homeowners and renters who want keyless entry, families who share a front door, and small rental hosts who need to issue and cancel access remotely, provided they add the gateway. Anyone happy with a plain key and no need for access logs may not need the extra features.
What to check before you buy
- Door fit: confirm the door thickness, bore hole and backset match the lock, and that your door counts as a standard US door.
- Gateway: decide whether you need remote control, since the G2 gateway is a separate item.
- Wi-Fi and phone: check what the app needs from your network and phone.
- Batteries: see what type it uses and how the low-battery warning and emergency access work.
- Finish: the model shown is satin nickel; confirm it suits your existing hardware.
- Permission: if you rent or live in a condo or co-op, check whether you may change the lock.
