The Veise VSL-200 is a fingerprint smart lock sold as a set with a deadbolt and two lever handles, in matte black. It's for people who would rather touch the door than search for keys, and who want to share access from an app.

Ways to unlock

Veise lists fingerprint, password, fobs, keys, Apple Watch and voice control as access methods. Voice control needs the Veise G2 Gateway, which is sold separately. The company says a fingerprint or IC card unlocks the door in 0.3 seconds. An IC card is a small contactless card or fob that you hold to the reader.

Auto-lock can be set to a time of your choosing, and there's a one-touch lock option. Veise presents this as helpful for busy people and for anyone who has locked themselves out, since the door secures itself when you leave.

App, sharing and codes

The lock works with the DDlock app. Veise says you can share eKeys, manage users and set up various access codes in it. Safety features include anti-peep code entry, which typically lets you type extra digits around the real code, and a limit on wrong code attempts.

A note from the listing is worth following: avoid changing the master password on the keypad before pairing with the app. Touch the keypad to wake the lock before pairing, and if the app doesn't connect, perform a reset as the manual describes.

Remote control with the G2 Gateway

With the G2 Gateway connected, Veise says you can open the door remotely, use Alexa and Google Home, and monitor it in real time. Without a gateway, app control typically works only within Bluetooth range, so add the gateway if you want remote features.

Weather and installation

Veise describes the lock as weatherproof but gives no protection class in the listing, so check the manual for what exposure it is designed for. It's compatible with standard US doors and installs with a screwdriver. The package measures 12.6 x 7.1 x 3.6 inches (about 32 x 18 x 9 cm) and weighs 5.1 lb (2.3 kg). Follow the manual and local codes, especially on fire-rated doors or doors that serve as an exit route.

Veise offers a one-year warranty, lifetime technical support, phone service on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM Pacific time, and email support at any hour.

Who it suits

It suits households and small rentals that want fingerprint entry and app-based sharing, and people replacing a full handle and deadbolt set. It's a less obvious choice if you don't want to use an app at all, since the app is how most management happens.

What to check before you buy

  • Door fit: measure bore, backset and thickness against the manual.
  • Gateway: decide whether you need remote control and voice assistants, which need the separate G2 Gateway.
  • Pairing: follow the pairing note about the master password.
  • Fingers: make sure everyone can register a reliable fingerprint.
  • Batteries and keys: check the battery type the manual lists and keep a backup way in.

The short version

  • A fingerprint smart lock with a deadbolt and two lever handles in matte black.
  • Fingerprint or IC card unlock in 0.3 seconds, per Veise; also password, fob, key and Apple Watch.
  • DDlock app for eKeys and users; the G2 Gateway adds remote and voice control.
  • Fits standard US doors and installs with a screwdriver.
  • Check your door's measurements first.
