The Veise VSL-001 is a keyless smart deadbolt sold with two lever handles, in a satin nickel finish. It unlocks with a fingerprint, a code, an IC card fob or a key, and it is meant for standard US front doors that need both a deadbolt and a handle set.

Ways to unlock

Veise lists access by fingerprint, password, fobs and keys, plus voice control, which needs the Veise G2 gateway. The brand says a fingerprint or IC card unlocks the door in 0.3 seconds. Auto-lock can be set for a time you choose, or you can lock by one touch, which helps anyone who worries about leaving the door unlocked.

Users and codes

The listed capacity is 50 fingerprints and 250 user codes. Veise says the DDlock app is used to share eKeys, manage users and set different access codes. An anti-peep code feature, in general, lets you type extra digits around the real code so onlookers can't read it, and the lock has a limit of five wrong code entries before it responds, per the listed specification.

Remote access

Veise says remote control through Alexa and Google Home, and real-time monitoring, need the G2 gateway, sold separately. Without it, the lock is used locally through the keypad, fingerprint reader, cards and app.

Door sizes

The listing gives these figures:

  • Backset: 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches (60 or 70 mm).
  • Hole in the door edge: 1 inch (25 mm).
  • Door prep size: 2-1/8 inches (54 mm).
  • Door thickness: 1-3/8 to 2 inches (35 to 50 mm).
  • Hole drilled in the door frame: at least 1 inch (25 mm).

The package is about 12.6 x 7.1 x 3.6 inches and weighs 5.1 lb. Veise says installation needs only a screwdriver.

Power and weather protection

It needs four AA batteries, which are not included. The listing gives an IP54 waterproof class, which in general means protection against dust and splashing water rather than full immersion.

Pairing note

The listing advises not changing the master password on the keypad before pairing with the app, touching the keypad to wake the lock before pairing, and performing a reset if the app can't connect.

Support

Veise offers a one-year warranty, lifetime technical support by phone on weekdays 9 AM to 5 PM PST and email service all day.

Who it suits

It suits homes with a standard prepared door that need both a deadbolt and handles and want to give family or visitors shareable access.

What to check before you buy

  • Door prep: measure your door against each figure above.
  • Batteries: buy four AA batteries and check what warning the lock gives when they run low.
  • Gateway: decide whether you need remote or voice control, which requires the G2 gateway.
  • Handing: check whether your door suits the handle set as supplied.
  • Installation: follow the manual and local building codes.
