The Veise VS02 is a battery-powered deadbolt that opens with a fingerprint, a keypad code or a one-time code. It is meant to take the place of a standard deadbolt on a front door, so the household can come and go without keys. This overview covers how each feature works, what the certifications mean and what to check before fitting one.
Three ways to unlock
Veise calls this a 3-in-1 lock:
- Fingerprint: the lock can hold up to 20 fingerprints. Veise says it identifies a print within 0.3 seconds and unlocks within about one second, with a recognition rate of 99.99%. Those are the brand's figures, and real-world speed varies with finger condition, such as very dry or wet skin.
- User codes: up to 20 codes for family members, entered on a backlit keypad.
- One-time code: a temporary code for a visitor or sitter that is deleted automatically once it has been used.
Having several methods is practical. A child can use a fingerprint, a guest can use a code, and everyone has a fallback if one method fails.
Locking behaviour
The deadbolt can lock automatically 10 to 99 seconds after the door closes. You can also lock it by pressing and holding any key for two seconds. Veise lists a silent mode, a limit on wrong code attempts and a vacation mode among the features. A silent mode turns off the key beeps, which suits quiet households, and a wrong-attempt limit pauses the keypad after repeated mistakes.
Power and emergency access
The lock has a low-power indicator. If the batteries run flat, Veise says you can connect a portable charger to its USB Type-C port from outside and reactivate the lock. That is a useful safeguard against being locked out, but it is worth knowing where the port is and keeping a power bank within reach. Check the manual for the battery type and replacement steps.
Certification and weather resistance
The listing states ANSI Grade 3 certification. ANSI/BHMA grades run from 1 to 3 for residential-and-light-commercial hardware, with Grade 1 the most demanding, so Grade 3 is the entry level of the scale and is commonly used for homes. It is also classed IP54, which generally means protection against dust ingress and splashing water. That suits a sheltered entrance better than a spot facing driving rain.
Fit and installation
Veise says the lock suits most standard US doors, both left- and right-handed, and can be installed with a screwdriver. The listed dimensions are 6.0 x 3.2 x 3.2 inches and 1.6 lb. Doors need the usual pre-drilled holes for a deadbolt, so measure the thickness, hole size and backset and compare them with the manual before ordering. Follow the instructions and local codes for installation.
Support
Veise states at least a one-year warranty, phone support on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM Eastern time and email service at any hour.
Who it suits
It suits households that want to stop carrying keys, hosts who share temporary access, and families with children or older relatives who find keys awkward. If you want to control the lock from a phone, note that this listing does not describe app control.
What to check before you buy
- Door preparation: thickness, hole diameter and backset against the manual.
- Fingerprint capacity: 20 prints is plenty for most homes, but count your household.
- Power: keep spare batteries and a charger handy; learn how to use the USB-C emergency port.
- Mechanical key: the listing does not mention one, so confirm what backup the lock includes.
- Rules: follow the manual and local building and fire codes, particularly for doors that serve as an exit.
