The Veise VL-100 is a smart lock set that pairs a deadbolt with a lever handle and a touchscreen keypad. You can open it with an app, a code, a fob, a key or the interior thumb turn. It is designed for homes that have a stream of visitors, such as house sitters, cleaners or rental guests, and want to manage access without handing out keys.

Five ways in

Veise lists five ways to open the lock: the app, a code, key fobs, a mechanical key and the thumb turn on the inside. Having several methods means one failing doesn't lock you out. The mechanical key, for instance, is a back-up if the batteries die.

App control and eKeys

Through the app and a website management system, Veise says you can send an eKey to someone remotely, manage users and view access records. An eKey is a digital key that lives on a person's phone. It can typically be given or withdrawn without anyone touching the lock.

Managing many codes

The lock supports more than 250 user codes. Veise says you can generate one-time, permanent, scheduled and recurring codes and share them remotely. In practice:

  • One-time: works once, good for a delivery or a single visit.
  • Scheduled: works between set dates and times, for a guest's stay.
  • Recurring: repeats on set days, for a regular cleaner.
  • Permanent: for household members until you delete it.

Veise suggests it suits houses, apartments, offices and hotels.

The listing mentions auto-lock, one-touch locking, privacy mode, passage mode and a low-battery alert. Privacy mode typically stops most codes from opening the door while you are inside, and passage mode keeps the door unlocked for a period, which is useful during a party or at an office during opening hours. The touchscreen keypad is described as anti-peeping and anti-hacking. As with any lock, follow the manual and local codes.

Smart home integration

On its own the lock connects by Bluetooth to your phone. To control it from anywhere, get push notifications, check its status or use voice control with Alexa and Google Home, Veise says you need its G2 gateway, which is sold separately. Consider that extra item if remote use matters to you.

Fitting and setup

Veise says the lock fits most standard US left- and right-handed doors between 1-3/8 and 2 inches thick (about 35 to 51 mm), with an adjustable design that can use existing pre-drilled holes. The brand gives at least a one-year warranty, weekday phone support and email support at any time.

One note from the listing: don't change the master password on the keypad before pairing the lock in the app. You may need to touch the keypad to wake it up before pairing, and if the app can't find the lock, reset it.

Who it suits

It suits households and small properties where several people need different levels of access, and people who like managing a door from their phone. If you only need a simple keypad, a non-app lock may be easier.

What to check before you buy

  • Door: thickness, handing and the existing hole pattern.
  • Gateway: whether you need remote access, and if so, the separately sold G2 gateway.
  • Phone: the app's supported phone versions.
  • Batteries: type, and how the low-battery alert works.
  • Finish: the matte black finish against your other hardware.
  • Rules: whether you are allowed to replace the lock if you rent.

  • 250+ user codes: one-time, permanent, scheduled and recurring.
