The Veise VE017-B is a fingerprint smart deadbolt that comes with a matching lever handle set, both in matte black zinc alloy. It opens with a fingerprint, a code, a key fob, the app or a regular key, and it can lock itself after you leave. Here is what its features mean and what to check before fitting it.
Eight ways in, including a fingerprint
Veise counts eight access and locking options: fingerprint, app, authorized access, key fobs, PIN code, code sharing, auto-lock and a mechanical key. Veise lists fingerprint recognition in 0.2 seconds, room for more than 20 fingerprints, and a self-learning reader meant to cut down on repeated attempts.
Having keys and fobs as well as fingerprints and codes gives you options. The mechanical key doesn't depend on the batteries, and the USB-C emergency port typically lets you power the keypad from a power bank if the batteries run flat.
Codes for different people
You can create up to 100 codes in four types: permanent codes for family, recurring codes for regular visitors such as cleaners, time-limited codes for tenants, and one-time codes for guests. Codes can be shared and revoked remotely, which suits rentals and offices where people come and go.
A peep-proof feature lets you type random digits before or after your real code, so someone watching the keypad can't easily pick the code out.
The app and voice control
The lock works with the KK Home app, where you can grant permanent or temporary access and generate and share one-time and recurring codes. Voice control, remote operation and activity monitoring need the Veise G1 Gateway, which is sold separately.
Auto-lock, encryption and power
Auto-lock can be set from 10 to 180 seconds, and there's one-touch locking as well. Veise says passwords are encrypted with AES-128, a widely used encryption standard.
Power comes from four AA batteries, which aren't included. Veise lists up to 12 months of battery life; in practice, that depends on how often the door is used. Low-battery alerts give you notice before they run out. The lock has IP55 protection against dust and water jets, and the listing describes it for interior and exterior doors.
Fitting it to your door
The set fits standard doors from 1-3/8 to 2 inches (35 to 50 mm) thick. Veise's sizing diagram shows 2-1/8-inch (54 mm) bore holes, a 2-3/8- or 2-3/4-inch (60 or 70 mm) backset and at least 4 inches (about 10 cm) between the deadbolt and handle holes, and it marks mortise locks as unsuitable. It also notes that the lock's thickness may interfere with an existing screen or storm door.
The set is BHMA/ANSI certified, and Veise says installation takes about 15 minutes with a screwdriver, with a manual and tutorial included.
Who it suits
It suits homeowners who want keyless entry with a matching handle, landlords and hosts who give codes to tenants or guests, and small offices with several users. It comes with a 1-year limited warranty, plus a free 1-year extension when you register the product, and Veise offers US phone and email support.

- Batteries: four AA batteries are needed and not included.
- Voice and remote control: plan for the G1 Gateway, sold separately, if you want them.
