The Veise RZ02A is an electronic deadbolt that combines a fingerprint reader with a backlit keypad. You can unlock with a finger, a code or one of two spare keys, so there is no need to dig for keys with a bag in your hand. It is a standalone lock, powered by batteries.
Fingerprint, code and key access
Veise lists capacity for twenty fingerprints and twenty password codes, plus two spare keys. There is also a one-time password for temporary visitors, which is deleted automatically after it has been used. That is handy for a one-off visit from a tradesperson or a guest.
Fingerprint locks typically work by comparing a scan to stored templates inside the lock. They are quick to use, but wet, dirty or very dry fingers can affect reading, which is why the keypad and keys remain as alternatives.
Auto-lock and privacy features
The lock can secure itself 10 to 99 seconds after the door closes, or you can press a key for 2 seconds to lock it manually. Anti-peeping password entry helps hide the real code from onlookers, typically by allowing extra digits around it. The backlit keypad, low-battery alert, mute mode and vacation mode round out the feature set. Vacation mode usually restricts which codes work while you're away, as the manual explains.
Build quality and weather
Veise says the lock is ANSI Grade 3 with a sturdy lock cylinder and alloy construction. Grade 3 is the entry level of the ANSI/BHMA residential grades. The listing also says it is water resistant, without giving a protection class, so it's wise to check the manual about exposure to rain and sun.
Power
It runs on four AA batteries. Veise says they last for more than one year, although that depends on usage and temperature. Keep spare batteries and the physical keys somewhere you can reach if the lock stops responding.
Installation
Veise says installation takes only a screwdriver and a few minutes, and the lock is compatible with American standard left- and right-handed doors. In general, that means doors drilled for a standard deadbolt. The lock package measures 3.4 x 4.9 x 6.9 inches (about 9 x 12 x 17.5 cm) and weighs about 1.9 lb (0.9 kg). Follow the manual and local codes, especially for fire-rated doors or doors that serve as an exit route.
Who it suits
It suits households that want a door that opens with a touch, families with children who forget keys, and small rental or office doors with a manageable number of users. It is not an app-connected smart lock, so it doesn't offer remote access or logs.
What to check before you buy
- Door preparation: confirm that the door has standard bore and edge holes, and check the thickness and backset against the manual.
- Handing and finish: this version is satin nickel; check that it matches other hardware.
- Users: 20 fingerprints and 20 codes should be enough for most households.
- Fingers: consider whether everyone who will use it can register a reliable fingerprint.
- Batteries and keys: have spare AA cells and keep a key outside the lock.
