The Veise KS02B is a keyless entry set: a fingerprint and keypad deadbolt plus two matching lever handles, finished in oil rubbed bronze. It lets the household come and go with a fingertip or a code, and gives visitors a code instead of a hidden key. Because it replaces both the deadbolt and the handle, it suits a door that needs a complete new set.

Four ways in

The lock stores up to 20 fingerprints and 20 user passcodes, comes with two physical keys and can issue one-time passcodes that stop working after a single use. A master admin code manages the others. Inside, a rotating thumb turn locks and unlocks the door by hand.

According to Veise, the self-learning fingerprint sensor has a resolution of 500 DPI, identifies a finger in 0.3 seconds and unlocks within about a second. Veise says the sensor grows more sensitive as it is used. As with most fingerprint readers, clean, dry fingers read most reliably.

One-time codes are useful for a dog walker, a cleaner or a relative who needs to get in once. The anti-peep function lets you type random digits before or after your real code, so someone watching can't easily pick it up.

Auto-lock and the three modes

Auto-lock can be set anywhere from 10 to 99 seconds after unlocking. When you leave, pressing and holding any key for two seconds locks the door from outside.

The lock also has three modes:

  • Vacation mode disables every code except the master code while you're away, and an alarm sounds if the lock is opened with the inside thumb turn.
  • Silent mode mutes the keypad tones for late returns; low-battery and security alerts still sound.
  • Passage mode comes on when auto-lock is turned off, so the door stays unlocked during a move, a party or a busy afternoon.

Certification and weather

The KS02B is ANSI/BHMA Grade 3 certified. Under that standard, Grade 1 is the most demanding level, and Grade 3 is the level typically used for residential locks. It is IP54 waterproof, which under the IP system means protection against dust and splashing water, and Veise lists an operating range of -31°F to 158°F (about -35°C to 70°C). It is described as suitable for both interior and exterior doors. The two lever handles are made of zinc alloy.

Batteries

Four AA batteries power the lock (not included), and Veise says they last up to a year. A red light comes on when the charge drops below 15%, giving time to change them. Battery life depends on how often the door is used, so a busy family door will need changes sooner. The physical keys open the lock if the batteries are flat.

Fit and installation

Veise says installation and programming take a few minutes with only a screwdriver. The set fits standard left- and right-handed doors 1-3/8 to 2 inches (35 to 50 mm) thick, with two 2-1/8 inch (54 mm) bore holes: one for the deadbolt and one for the handle. The fitting diagram shows a backset of 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches (60 or 70 mm) and a minimum of 4 inches (about 10 cm) between the two holes. It isn't made for mortise or integrated lock sets, and the outside keypad's thickness may get in the way of an existing screen door. Follow the manual, and test every unlock method with the door open before closing it.

Veise includes a 1-year limited warranty, extended by a further year when you register the product.

What to check before you buy

  • Two holes: your door needs bore holes for both a deadbolt and a handle.
  • Measurements: check door thickness, hole sizes, backset and the spacing between holes.
  • Screen door: make sure there's clearance for the outside keypad.
  • Remote access: the listing describes no app or Wi-Fi, so codes are managed at the lock.
  • Rentals: check building or rental rules before changing a lock.
