The Veise Keyless Entry Door Lock is a keypad deadbolt supplied with two matching door knobs, finished in satin nickel. It replaces the key you would otherwise carry with a code, while keeping two physical keys as a backup. It is designed for standard American doors and uses ordinary AA batteries.
Three ways to unlock
Veise calls this "3 in 1" unlocking:
- Passcodes. The lock stores up to 20 codes, so each family member or regular visitor can have their own.
- One-time codes. For a temporary visitor, you can create a code that deletes itself after it is used.
- Keys. Two spare keys come with the lock, for use if the batteries run out or you prefer a key.
Keypad features
The keypad is backlit, so it is readable in the dark. Veise lists anti-peeping codes (you can add extra digits around the real code so onlookers can't easily read it), low battery alerts, a mute mode that silences the beeps, and a vacation mode.
Auto lock
You can set the lock to engage on its own after 10 to 99 seconds, so the door is locked if you forget. You can also lock it by hand by pressing any key for two seconds. Auto lock is convenient, but keep in mind that you need a code or key with you when stepping out.
Build and power
Veise says the lock is ANSI Grade 3, with a sturdy lock cylinder and alloy construction. ANSI/BHMA grades rate residential hardware, and Grade 3 is the basic residential level. It runs on four AA batteries, which Veise says last more than a year. Battery life depends on use, so act on the low battery alert when it appears.
Installation
Veise says you only need a screwdriver, and that installation and programming take a few minutes. It is compatible with American standard doors, both left- and right-handed. As with any lock, follow the manual and local building codes, and check your door's bore size and thickness against the lock's requirements.
Support
Veise lists a warranty of at least one year, lifetime phone support on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM Pacific time, and email service at any hour.
Who it suits
It suits households that want to stop carrying a key, share access with several people, or let in visitors temporarily. The two included knobs help to complete a matched hardware look on a front door.
What to check before you buy
- Door preparation: check the door thickness, the hole size and the backset against the lock's specifications.
- Handing: confirm compatibility with your door's handing and any existing hardware.
- Knob count: the set includes two knobs, so check you have the number of doors you want to match.
- Codes: choose codes that aren't easy to guess, and decide how you will handle spare keys.
- Batteries: keep spare AA batteries on hand, and know how the lock behaves when they are low.
