The MAGSEN impact wrench (model CJBS-1500N.m) is a cordless tool with a 1/2-inch drive, made for loosening and running down heavy nuts and bolts away from an outlet or air compressor. It comes as a kit with two batteries, a fast charger, five sockets and a tool case. Here is what its specs mean for tyre changes and heavy-duty work.

What 1500 N·m of torque means

Torque is turning force. MAGSEN rates the wrench's brushless motor at a peak loosening torque of up to 1500 N·m (1107 ft-lb). That figure is for breaking fasteners free, usually the hardest part of the job; impact wrenches typically deliver less when tightening. A high loosening figure is aimed at stubborn fasteners, such as rusted or over-tightened nuts and the large bolts on trucks, RVs and machinery.

A brushless motor switches its current electronically instead of through carbon brushes, which means less friction and fewer parts that wear out.

Three speeds, forward and reverse

A switch at the base selects three speed ranges: 0-2800, 0-3200 and 0-3800 RPM. Ranges starting at zero mean the speed rises with trigger pressure, and MAGSEN says the trigger responds to subtle changes. Lower ranges give more control when starting a nut or working on smaller fasteners, and MAGSEN notes they also save battery power; the top range is for heavy work.

A side button switches between forward and reverse.

Reverse auto-stop

In reverse, a brake stop function cuts speed and torque once the nut or bolt comes loose. The idea is that the nut doesn't spin off the end of the thread and drop, which saves hunting for it under a car or in gravel and helps avoid damaging the fastener.

Batteries, charger and light

The kit includes two 21V batteries of 4000mAh (4.0Ah), each with 10 cells, and a fast charger whose light shows red while charging and green when charging is done. On tools like this, 21V is usually the battery's peak voltage, with a nominal voltage of about 18V. Two batteries mean one can charge while the other is in use.

An LED light comes on with the trigger and stays on for about 20 seconds after you let go, which helps inside wheel arches, engine bays and other dark or cramped spaces.

What's in the case

Along with the wrench, batteries and charger, the kit has five impact sockets (17, 19, 21, 22 and 24 mm), an extension rod, a tool case and a user manual. Sizes from 17 to 21 mm are common for wheel nuts on many cars, but sizes vary, so check your own vehicle.

Impact sockets are made to withstand the repeated blows of an impact tool; ordinary hand-tool sockets aren't designed for that use.

Who it suits

It suits drivers and DIYers who change their own tyres on cars, trucks and RVs, and anyone doing construction or machinery work that involves large nuts and bolts away from an air supply.

What to check before you buy

  • Weight and size: these aren't stated, so check the tool will suit how and where you'll use it.
  • Socket sizes: confirm your wheel nuts and bolts match the included sizes, or plan for more impact sockets.
  • Batteries: check whether they fit any other tools you own; most battery systems are brand-specific.
  • Tightening wheel nuts: follow the torque in your vehicle's manual, usually finishing with a torque wrench.
  • The manual: read it before first use and follow its guidance on operation and protective gear.
