The Lockly Secure Pro (model PGD728WSNE1) is a keyless deadbolt with built-in Wi-Fi. It replaces a standard deadbolt and lets you open the door with a fingerprint, a PIN, the phone app or a voice assistant, with two physical keys as a backup. It is aimed at households that want to stop carrying keys and share access with family or visitors.

Fingerprint entry

Lockly says the fingerprint reader recognises a print and unlocks in about 0.2 seconds, and that it stores up to 99 fingerprints. In general, that capacity is plenty for a household plus regular visitors. Fingerprint readers can struggle with very wet, dirty or worn fingertips, so many people also set up a PIN as a second route in.

The PIN Genie keypad

The keypad is Lockly's own design. It reshuffles the digits after each use, so someone watching over your shoulder, or reading smudges on the buttons, can't easily work out the code from finger positions. Lockly offers two modes, Safe Mode and Random Mode, and the lock can hold up to 49 PIN codes. A shuffling keypad is a little slower to use than a fixed one, because you need to look at the digits each time.

App control and sharing access

With Wi-Fi built in, the Lockly app can lock and unlock the door remotely, show door activity and keep an activity log. Access can be shared in several ways:

  • eKeys for people you want to give app-based access.
  • eBadges for guests or short-term access.
  • Offline Access Codes generated from the phone.

Lockly also lists an Air Transfer feature for moving user profiles between Lockly devices, which helps if you have more than one door.

Auto-lock and voice control

The auto-lock can be programmed in the app, so the deadbolt throws itself after the door closes and you don't have to wonder whether you locked it. Lockly lists compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant for voice commands. Voice assistants generally limit unlocking by voice, so check how each one handles locks.

Physical keys and rekeying

Two mechanical backup keys come with the lock, which matters if the batteries run flat or the phone is out of reach. Lockly says the key cylinder can be replaced without changing the whole lock (rekeying), useful if a key is lost.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners and renters (with landlord permission) who want keyless entry, several users with their own fingerprints or codes, and remote visibility of who came and went. It is less suited to doors that don't take a standard deadbolt setup.

What to check before you buy

  • Door fit: confirm your door's thickness, bore holes and backset match the lock, and that the existing deadbolt is a standard type.
  • Wi-Fi reach: check the signal at your front door, since remote control depends on it.
  • Batteries: see the manual for the battery type and how the lock warns you when they are low.
  • Handing, finish and keys: check the finish and what comes in the box, including both keys.
  • Rental or building rules: confirm you are allowed to change the lock.
  • Installation: follow the manual, and consider a locksmith if you are unsure about alignment.

The short version

  • A Wi-Fi deadbolt with a fingerprint reader (up to 99 prints) and a shuffling PIN Genie keypad (up to 49 codes).
  • App control with activity log, remote unlock and eKeys, eBadges and Offline Access Codes.

  • Two backup keys and a rekeyable cylinder.
