The Lockly Secure Pro (model PGD728W) is a smart deadbolt that combines a keypad, a fingerprint sensor, phone control and voice commands. It's meant for front doors at homes, rental properties and offices, where the owner wants to give people access without handing over physical keys.
Six ways in
Lockly lists the unlocking methods as the PIN Genie keypad, a 3D biometric fingerprint sensor, app control, voice control, a scan-to-open QR code and a physical key. Not every method is available the same way: app and voice control depend on the Wi-Fi hub, while the keypad, fingerprint and key work at the door. Lockly also lists the lock as IPX4 certified, which in general means it's protected against splashing water from any direction, a sensible level of protection for a lock on an exterior door.
The peek-proof keypad
The touchscreen keypad shows four circles, and Lockly says they can be used to set a six-digit code. After you enter a PIN, the digits shown change position, so someone watching can't simply copy the pattern of your taps. Lockly describes the touch film as toughened and long-lasting. As with any code, choose digits that aren't obvious.
Fingerprint recognition
The second-generation sensor is listed at 0.3 seconds to recognise a finger and 0.5 seconds to open the lock, and it holds up to 99 fingerprints. Lockly calls it self-learning, meaning it updates its stored data as you use it. Generally, fingerprint readers work most reliably with clean, dry fingers.
App, hub and voice control
Remote control through the Lockly app uses the Secure Link Wi-Fi hub. The listing describes the hub as included in one place and optional in another, so check what's in the box. Once it's configured, Lockly says the lock works with Alexa and Google Assistant, and you need to enable the matching skill or action before voice commands work. You can then ask for the door status or request locking and unlocking. Lockly says there's no monthly fee.
Real-time alerts tell you when the door is opened or closed. Auto lock and one-touch lock are listed, and so are eKeys and eBadges, which are revocable access passes you can send to family, friends and visitors.
Offline access codes and power backup
An offline access code lets a guest in without downloading the app. You generate it in the Lockly app by choosing the Access menu, adding a new user and selecting the offline option. If the batteries run flat, a 9V battery connection socket on the lock gives emergency power to the keypad, and the physical backup keys still work.
Who it suits
Short-term rental hosts, families with children coming home at different times, and small offices will find the access management useful. It's less relevant if you only want a simple keypad lock, as the Wi-Fi features add setup steps.
What to check before you buy
- Door fit: confirm your door's thickness and bore hole match the manual.
- Hub: check whether the Wi-Fi hub is in the box or sold separately.
- Wi-Fi: check your router and the hub's placement near the door.
- Voice assistant: confirm you have a compatible Alexa or Google Assistant device.
- Power: check the battery type and how the manual says to replace them.
- Installation: follow the manual and local codes, and confirm you're allowed to change the lock if you rent.
