The Lockly Secure Plus PGD628FCMB is a keyless smart deadbolt in matte black, in the latch edition. It replaces a conventional lock with a keypad and a fingerprint reader, and it adds app control, so one door can be opened in several ways without needing a key.

Six ways to unlock

Lockly lists six methods: an RFID card, a 3D biometric fingerprint reader, the patented PIN Genie keypad, a smartphone app, voice control through Alexa or Google (with the optional Wi-Fi hub), and a physical key. Having a key as a fallback means a flat battery or a lost phone does not have to lock anyone out. Different people can then use the method they prefer: a card for a tenant or staff member, a PIN for a guest, a fingerprint for the household.

How the PIN Genie keypad works

A normal keypad can reveal a code to someone watching or to smudges on the buttons. Lockly says the PIN Genie keypad has four virtual buttons, each showing three different numbers, and that the numbers change position after each use. The idea is that an onlooker cannot work out your PIN from the finger movements alone. Lockly calls it peek-proof; as with any lock, how well that holds up in practice depends on how it is used.

Fingerprint access

The second-generation 3D biometric sensor stores up to 99 fingerprints, according to Lockly. The brand gives recognition at under 0.3 seconds and lock opening at under 0.5 seconds. Fingerprint readers are convenient for children and for anyone with their hands full, though results can vary with very wet, dirty or worn fingertips.

App control, access sharing and monitoring

The Lockly app can lock and unlock the door remotely. The brand also describes eKeys and eBadges, which give revocable access to family, friends and visitors, and Offline Access Codes that work without Wi-Fi or internet for trusted users. Real-time open and closed alerts, along with remote status checks and voice commands, depend on the optional Wi-Fi hub, which is a separate accessory. A programmable auto-lock can re-lock the door after a set time.

Installation, rekeying and warranty

Lockly says the lock installs with common household tools. It can be rekeyed by replacing the key cylinder, using a standard rekey kit, without changing the whole lock. It is IPX4 certified, which generally means it resists splashing water from any direction. Warranty terms listed are 5 years mechanical and finish, 2 years electronics, and lifetime technical support.

Who it suits

Lockly positions it for homes, rental properties and offices. Landlords and short-term hosts can issue and revoke access remotely; families can skip the key hunt.

What to check before you buy

  • Door and latch: confirm that the door's thickness, bore holes and backset suit this latch edition; check the manual's measurements.
  • Wi-Fi hub: remote alerts and voice control need the optional hub, so check what is included.
  • Batteries: see what type it uses and how to change them.
  • Codes and rules: follow the manual and any local codes, and any building or lease rules, before swapping a lock.
