The eufy Security Smart Lock C220 (model T8506) is a keyless deadbolt that replaces the lock on a front door. It reads fingerprints, connects to Wi-Fi without a separate bridge, and can also be opened with a keypad, an app or a physical key. It is aimed at households who are tired of fumbling for keys.
Six ways to unlock
eufy Security lists six methods: fingerprint, the eufy Security app, the keypad, a physical key, an Apple Watch, and voice control through Alexa or the Google Assistant. Having a key as a backup matters with any electronic lock, since it still works if the batteries die or the Wi-Fi is down.
The fingerprint sensor is described as unlocking in under 1.5 seconds, and its self-learning AI is meant to get more accurate as it sees more of each finger. In general, fingerprint readers can struggle with wet, dirty or very worn fingers, so it helps to enrol each finger a few times and to have a second method ready.
Built-in Wi-Fi
Many smart locks need a hub or bridge. The C220 connects to your home Wi-Fi directly, so you can lock and unlock from the app, manage access, see event history and get real-time notifications. A lock that relies on Wi-Fi is only as reliable as your router, and the location of the router relative to the door is worth considering. If you have a eufy doorbell, the lock can be added to routines in the same app.
Battery life
The lock takes 8 AA batteries, and eufy Security says they last around 8 months, with the caveat that this depends on how often the lock is used. As with any battery-powered lock, treat a low-battery warning seriously and keep spares at home.
Installation and door fit
eufy Security says the lock is compatible with most standard US and Canadian deadbolts and takes about 15 minutes to install without drilling. That suggests it is designed to work with the door's existing hole pattern. The size listed is 7.7 x 4.5 x 4.4 inches. Confirm your door thickness, backset and bolt type against the manual.
Weather and security classes
The listing gives an IP53 class, which in general means protection from dust to a degree and from sprayed water, not from submersion. The operating range is -22°F to 158°F (-30°C to 70°C). It carries a BHMA Grade 3 classification, the lowest of the three grades in that residential standard, so consider whether it suits your door and needs. The lock also sends an alarm for an unusual attempt to open it, and eufy Security cites an 18-month protection period.
Who it suits
It suits households that want keyless entry, shared access for family or guests, and remote control from a phone, on a standard deadbolt door.
