The ARCCAPTAIN 200A is a two-in-one inverter welder that handles TIG and Stick (MMA) welding. It runs on either 110 V or 220 V, weighs under 12 lb, and is aimed at people who want a compact machine for fabrication, repair and hobby work. Here is what its main features mean in practice.

TIG and Stick in one machine

TIG welding uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode and a separate filler rod, with shielding gas protecting the weld. It is slower than other methods but gives neat, precise welds, which is why it is popular for stainless and mild steel. Stick welding uses a flux-coated electrode that creates its own shield, so it copes better with wind, outdoor work and thicker or slightly dirty material. ARCCAPTAIN says the machine delivers up to 200 amps, and lists hot start, arc force and anti-stick for Stick mode. Hot start boosts current at the beginning, arc force helps keep the arc stable, and anti-stick limits current if the electrode sticks.

High-frequency arc starting

With high-frequency starting, the arc begins without the tungsten touching the workpiece. In general, this helps avoid contaminating the tungsten and the weld, and ARCCAPTAIN says it reduces tungsten and material consumption. The brand also cites MCU control and IGBT inverter technology for a stable arc with little spatter.

Post-gas, down-slope and 2T/4T

  • Post-gas keeps argon flowing after the arc stops, protecting the cooling weld and the tungsten. It is adjustable from 1 to 10 seconds.
  • Down-slope ramps the current down gradually at the end of a weld, to avoid a crater. It is adjustable from 0 to 10 seconds.
  • 2T/4T changes how the torch trigger behaves. In 2T you hold the trigger to weld; in 4T you press and release to start and again to stop, which is more comfortable on long welds.

A large LED screen shows settings and readings.

Dual voltage and portability

The machine accepts both 110 V and 220 V input. In general, a lower-voltage supply limits the maximum output, so check the manual for the current available on each input. At under 12 lb it comes with a handle and a shoulder strap, which makes it easy to move around a workshop or job site.

Protection features

ARCCAPTAIN lists voltage reduction device (VRD), over-current, over-voltage, overload and overheating protection. The cooling fan runs only when needed, so the machine is quieter at idle. The listing also warns not to power the unit on again until the screen has turned off and the fan has stopped. Welding involves electrical hazards, arc radiation, fumes and hot metal, so follow the manual, wear proper protective gear and meet local electrical codes.

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists, small workshops and people learning TIG who also want a Stick option for outdoor or heavy jobs. ARCCAPTAIN describes it as suitable for entry-level welders.

What to check before you buy

  • Gas: TIG needs a shielding gas supply (typically argon), a regulator and a torch setup. Check what is included.
  • Power supply: confirm the outlet and breaker size for the voltage you plan to use.
  • Materials and thickness: compare the amp range to the metal you weld.
  • Aluminium: the listing mentions stainless and mild steel; check the manual before welding other metals.
  • Safety gear: helmet, gloves, protective clothing and ventilation.
  • Accessories: which torch, clamp and electrode holder come in the box.

The short version

  • A 200A HF TIG and Stick welder with 110 V/220 V dual voltage.
  • Non-contact high-frequency arc starting, 2T/4T control, adjustable post-gas and down-slope.
  • LED display, fan that runs only when needed, and VRD plus several protection functions.
  • Under 12 lb with handle and shoulder strap.
  • Use proper gear, follow the manual and local electrical codes.
