The YOWHICK W35 is a small portable projector for movie nights at home or outdoors. It combines native 1080P output with Android-based apps, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth, and a body that rotates so you can aim the picture at a wall or a ceiling. It is aimed at people who want a big picture without a permanent home-theatre setup.

Resolution and brightness

YOWHICK lists native 1080P resolution, 15,000 lumens and a 20,000:1 contrast ratio. The lumen figure is the brand's own and is not directly comparable to ANSI lumens, which projectors are normally measured in, so treat it as a marketing figure. In general, any projector looks best in a dim room, and contrast and brightness together decide how clear the picture is on a wall or a screen. The listing also says 4K content is supported, meaning the projector accepts the signal.

Electric focus and keystone correction

An F+ and F- button on the remote adjusts the focus, which YOWHICK says gives a clear image in under three seconds. This saves reaching for a focus ring. Automatic keystone correction squares up the picture when the projector sits at an angle, and the brand says it adjusts for tilt. Digital correction can soften the image slightly, so placing the projector level and square to the screen still gives the best result.

Screen size and throw distance

The projector produces a 40 to 300 inch picture from a throw distance of 3.6 to 29 feet (about 1.1 to 8.8 m), in 4:3 or 16:9. Larger sizes mean a dimmer, softer image, so check that your room allows the distance you need.

Connectivity

The projector has dual-band WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, plus Android 9 for streaming apps. YOWHICK says it supports screen mirroring and connecting game consoles, and works with iPhone, Android, TV sticks, HDMI sources and laptops. Bluetooth is useful for sending sound to a speaker or headphones.

Portability and rotation

The body is about 5.6 x 4.4 x 7.3 inches (14 x 11 x 18.5 cm). A 210° rotation lets you aim the lens up at a ceiling for lying-down viewing, a feature that suits bedrooms. For outdoor use you still need a power source, a flat surface and a screen or light-coloured wall.

Who it suits

It suits small apartments, bedrooms, backyard movie nights and casual gaming. It is less suited to bright rooms in daytime, or to anyone who needs true 4K detail, since the projector is native 1080P.

What to check before you buy

  • Room light: can you darken the room or wait for dusk?
  • Distance: measure the throw distance to get the picture size you want.
  • Sound: small built-in speakers are typically modest, so you may want an external speaker.
  • Apps: check which streaming apps you can use, since built-in Android 9 may limit some of them.
  • Ports and power: confirm the ports you need and a nearby outlet.
  • Surface: a smooth white wall or a screen gives better results than textured paint.
