The YOWHICK projector (sold as the DP01) is a compact home and outdoor projector with native 1080P resolution, dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth. It is meant for movie nights in the living room, the garden or a campsite. Here is what its specifications mean and where it fits.

Native 1080P and brightness

YOWHICK says the projector has a true 1920 x 1080 native resolution. The listing also says it supports 4K input, which usually means it accepts a 4K signal and scales it down to 1080P. Native resolution is the number of pixels the projector can actually display.

Brightness is listed as 9500L, with a 10000:1 contrast ratio. Projector brightness figures are often "lumens" measured on different scales, and a number this high on a small projector typically isn't directly comparable with ANSI lumens, so treat it as the brand's own figure. In practice, any projector works best in a dim room, and outdoors after dusk. It uses 3LCD-style colour, according to the listing title.

Connections

Cabled inputs include HDMI, USB, VGA, AV and a TF (microSD) card slot. That covers laptops, game consoles such as the PS5, streaming sticks, USB drives and older equipment. It also supports 5G or 2.4G dual-band WiFi for wireless connection from iOS, Android and Windows devices.

One note from YOWHICK: because of copyright protection, some streaming apps don't allow screen mirroring. The brand suggests connecting a laptop by HDMI or using a streaming stick plugged into the projector.

Bluetooth and sound

Bluetooth 5.1 lets you pair speakers or headphones, which can improve audio sync and stability. For when you don't have external speakers, it has dual HiFi stereo speakers built in. Built-in speakers on small projectors are typically adequate for a small room but are not a replacement for a proper sound system.

Picture size, zoom and placement

The projected image can be sized from 33 to 200 inches. A zoom function lets you shrink the picture to 75% without moving the projector. A 100-inch screen is included, according to the description. The projector can sit on a table, hang from a bracket or be ceiling mounted, and an auto shut-off timer turns it off after a time you set.

Size

It weighs 2.2 lb (about 1 kg) and measures roughly 6.0 x 3.0 x 7.8 inches (15 x 7.6 x 19.8 cm). The listing says it carries FCC, CE and RoHS certifications.

Who it suits

It suits casual movie and game nights, backyard screenings, camping and RV trips, and small rooms where a TV isn't wanted. If you need a bright picture in a sunlit room or a professional presentation setup, a more powerful projector is likely to be a better match.

What to check before you buy

  • Room light: plan to use it in a dark or dim space.
  • Throw distance: check how far the projector needs to sit to produce the picture size you want.
  • Streaming: confirm how your preferred apps connect, as mirroring may be blocked.
  • Power outdoors: you need an outlet or a suitable power source; follow the manual's safety advice.
  • Screen: the included 100-inch screen may suit indoors; for outdoors, a wind-resistant mount is helpful.
  • Ventilation: leave space around the vents.
