The Ubiquiti UniFi Switch US-48-750W is a fully managed Gigabit switch with 48 ports, Power over Ethernet and fibre uplinks. It belongs to the UniFi Enterprise System and is managed from the UniFi Controller software. This page explains what the specifications mean and what to plan for.

Managed switching and the UniFi Controller

A managed switch lets you configure how traffic is handled. Ubiquiti says each port has custom settings: a port name, PoE, network and VLAN configuration, and an operation mode of switching, mirroring or aggregate. The switch also supports 802.1X authentication and RADIUS VLAN support, which control which devices may join the network and which VLAN they land in. All of this is set through the graphical interface of the UniFi Controller, which Ubiquiti says lets administrators configure and monitor virtually all features.

48 PoE ports and 750W of total power

Power over Ethernet sends power and data over one cable, so access points, IP cameras and phones need no separate adapters. The switch has auto-sensing IEEE 802.3af/at PoE (PoE and PoE+), and Ubiquiti also mentions configurable 24V PoE. The total power is 750W across all ports.

That power is shared across all ports. In general, 48 devices that each draw the full PoE+ allowance would exceed it, but most access points and cameras use much less. Add up the draw of your devices to see whether 750W is enough.

Two SFP ports support uplinks of up to 1 Gbps, and two SFP+ ports support uplinks of up to 10 Gbps. SFP slots take modules, so they can be used for fibre or other connections, which helps link switches in different parts of a building. The modules are bought separately. Ubiquiti gives the switching capacity as 52 Gbps.

Fans and noise

The listing mentions up to three fan levels and a background noise level of 27.5 dB. A 48-port PoE switch has to move air, so it is best placed in a rack or equipment room, not in a quiet living or office area.

Physical details

The switch measures about 19.1 by 14.8 by 1.7 inches and weighs 14.3 lb, a 1U rack-width design. It takes 100-240 V AC at 50-60 Hz, has a maximum power consumption of 750 W and an operating temperature range of 23 to 104°F (-5 to 40°C). In the box are the switch, a power cord, four mounting screws, four cage nuts and a quick start guide.

Who it suits

It suits larger homes, offices, schools and small businesses building a UniFi network with many wired and PoE devices, particularly where VLANs and central management matter. For a handful of devices, a smaller switch is more usual.

What to check before you buy

  • PoE power: total up the watts your devices need.
  • Controller: the switch is managed with the UniFi Controller, so plan where it will run.
  • Uplinks: decide whether you need SFP or SFP+ modules, and buy compatible ones.
  • Rack and ventilation: check space, airflow, power and fan noise.
  • Model details: the listing's model field shows a different code, so confirm the exact version.
  • Cabling: use suitable Ethernet cable for PoE runs, and follow the manual.

The short version

  • A 48-port managed Gigabit switch with auto-sensing 802.3af/at PoE.
  • 750W total power, 52 Gbps switching capacity.
  • Two SFP and two SFP+ uplinks, up to 10 Gbps.
  • Per-port VLAN, mirroring and aggregation, plus 802.1X.
  • Managed with the UniFi Controller.
