The Ubiquiti U7-Outdoor is a weatherproof Wi-Fi 7 access point built to bring wireless coverage to yards, courtyards, car parks, campuses and other open areas where an indoor unit would not survive. It connects to a wired network and spreads the signal over the space around it.

What Wi-Fi 7 and four spatial streams mean

Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) is the newest generation of Wi-Fi. Compared with Wi-Fi 6, it typically adds wider channels and the ability for a device to use several bands at once, which helps with speed and consistency. Ubiquiti lists four spatial streams. A spatial stream is a separate data path between the access point and a device, so more streams generally mean more total capacity, particularly when many devices connect together. Real-world speeds depend on what each device supports.

The directional antenna

Outdoor spaces differ from rooms, with few walls to contain the signal. Ubiquiti says the integrated directional super antenna covers 465 m² (5,000 ft²) of open space. A directional antenna focuses the signal in one general direction instead of equally all around, so it suits a unit mounted on a wall that faces an open area.

For other layouts, the beamwidth can be adjusted in software to balance coverage when using the included omni antennas. Ubiquiti quotes 200+ connected devices.

Power and wired connection

The access point is powered over Ethernet using PoE+ (802.3at), so a single network cable carries both data and power. This avoids running a mains outlet to a pole or outside wall, but it does need a PoE+ switch or injector at the other end. The uplink is 2.5 GbE, meaning the port runs at 2.5 gigabits per second. A switch port at 2.5 GbE or faster, with suitable cabling, lets the wired side keep up with Wi-Fi 7 speeds. Slower ports will limit throughput.

Weatherproofing and mounting

Ubiquiti lists the unit as weatherproof and suitable for outdoor exposure. It offers versatile wall and pole mounting. The unit weighs about 3.9 lb (1.8 kg). Outdoor installs typically call for outdoor-rated cable and connectors, plus careful sealing and grounding as the manual advises.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners with large grounds, small businesses with outdoor seating or yards, and sites that need a managed wireless network outdoors. It is part of Ubiquiti's own network ecosystem, so check which controller software it needs.

What to check before you buy

  • Power source: confirm you have a PoE+ switch or injector.
  • Switch speed: check for a 2.5 GbE port if you want the full uplink.
  • Cable run: measure the distance from the switch; Ethernet runs usually have a 100 m limit.
  • Mounting position: decide on wall or pole, and which way the antenna should face.
  • Management software: read the Ubiquiti documentation for the controller or app it needs.
  • Local rules: check regulations on outdoor wireless channels and power in your region, and follow the manual and local electrical codes.

The short version

  • A weatherproof Wi-Fi 7 access point with four spatial streams.
  • An integrated directional antenna covering 465 m² (5,000 ft²) of open space, per Ubiquiti.
  • Software-adjustable beamwidth with the included omni antennas; 200+ devices.
  • PoE+ power and a 2.5 GbE uplink.
  • Wall and pole mounting; weighs about 3.9 lb.
