The ASUS ExpertWiFi EBA63 is a dual-band WiFi 6 access point aimed at small and mid-sized businesses. It adds wireless coverage to an existing wired network and can be powered through its Ethernet cable. Here is what the specs mean and where it fits.
What an access point does
An access point differs from a router. A router connects your network to the internet and manages addresses, while an access point only adds WiFi on top of a wired connection. You plug it into a switch or router and it extends the wireless coverage. In offices, shops and clinics, several access points are typically placed around the building for coverage.
AX3000 and WiFi 6
AX3000 is a combined speed class across two bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz), and ASUS gives speeds up to 3000 Mbps and support for up to 100 active devices. As with any WiFi speed class, real speeds depend on devices, walls and other traffic, which ASUS notes in its own disclaimer. WiFi 6 (802.11ax) generally handles many simultaneous clients better than WiFi 5.
Power over Ethernet
The EBA63 supports PoE and PoE+, and it also works with an AC adapter. With PoE, one Ethernet cable carries both data and power, so you do not need an outlet near the ceiling. Check that your switch or injector provides enough PoE power for the access point, as the manual specifies.
SSIDs, VLANs and Self-Defined Network
The access point supports up to five SSIDs, which are separate WiFi network names. Combined with VLAN support, this lets a business separate staff, guest and device traffic on one piece of hardware. ASUS also lists Self-Defined Networks for simple WiFi setup and a management app. These features are useful where guests should not reach internal systems.
AiMesh
AiMesh compatibility lets the EBA63 work with other compatible ASUS devices to grow the network. That gives a path to add coverage later without replacing everything.
Mounting and build
It supports ceiling and wall mounting. The unit is about 6.3 x 6.3 x 1.2 inches (16 x 16 x 3 cm) and weighs 0.9 lb (about 0.4 kg). ASUS says it is compliant with IEC 60601-1-2, and that only the top half of the unit uses plastics that meet the UL94 5VB flammability standard.
Who it suits
It suits small offices, shops, cafés and clinics that want managed, segmented WiFi with a tidy ceiling installation. Large sites with hundreds of users will need more capacity and planning.
What to check before you buy
- PoE source: confirm your switch or injector supports PoE or PoE+, or plan to use the AC adapter.
- Cabling: an Ethernet run to the mounting point is needed.
- Device count: compare the 100-device figure with your expected use.
- Network design: VLANs need a compatible switch and router setup.
- Coverage: one unit covers a limited area; layout and walls matter.
- Compatibility: check the AiMesh compatibility list before mixing devices.
