The EnGenius EWS276-FIT is a Wi-Fi 6 wireless access point, a unit that adds wireless coverage to an existing wired network. Unlike an all-in-one home router, an access point does only the wireless part, which makes it a flexible choice for homes and offices that want coverage in specific spots, powered through a single Ethernet cable.
Wi-Fi 6 speeds, AX3600 and 4x4
The EWS276-FIT is a dual-band access point using 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) with a 4x4 antenna arrangement. EnGenius lists speeds of up to 2,400 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 1,148 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, which adds up to the AX3600 class. These are the maximum rates of the radios, and real-world speeds depend on the devices, distance and walls. It's backward compatible with 11ac/a/b/g/n clients, so older devices still connect.
Features that handle busy networks
EnGenius lists several technologies aimed at crowded networks:
- OFDMA (uplink and downlink): shares a transmission among several devices at once, improving efficiency.
- MU-MIMO: serves multiple devices simultaneously.
- Spatial reuse and BSS coloring: reduce congestion and interference from neighbouring networks.
- Target Wait Time (TWT): schedules when devices wake to communicate, which can extend battery life for phones and IoT devices.
- WPA3, mesh and seamless roaming: the listing title names these as supported.
The 2.5 Gbps PoE+ port
The access point has a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port. A standard Gigabit link can cap what a 4x4 Wi-Fi 6 access point delivers, so the faster port suits multi-gig internet or fast local storage, provided the switch or router at the other end also supports it.
The same port accepts PoE+ (802.3at), so power and data travel over one cable, up to 328 feet (100 m) from the power source. That allows ceiling or wall mounting where there's no outlet. The listing notes that the power adapter is not included, so you'll need a PoE+ switch or injector.
Management options
EnGenius's Fit solution lets you manage the access point from an app, in the cloud or on premises. It offers FitXpress, FitController or Fit Cloud-lite, depending on network size and technical comfort. The company states there are no access point licensing or subscription fees. Quick-scan registration is meant to speed up adding devices.
Size
The unit measures 8.1 x 8.1 x 1.3 inches, a flat, round-style footprint for ceiling or wall use.
Who it suits
It suits homes with wired Ethernet runs, small offices and small businesses that want controlled, expandable Wi-Fi from several access points, and people who like to centralize management.
What to check before you buy
- PoE+ source: make sure you have a PoE+ (802.3at) switch or injector.
- Multi-gig: to use the 2.5 Gbps port, the switch and cable should support it.
- Cabling: Ethernet cable runs should stay within the 328 ft limit.
- Management choice: decide whether you'll use cloud, controller or on-premises options.
- Client devices: Wi-Fi 6 speeds need Wi-Fi 6 devices.
- Mounting: check what mounting hardware comes in the box.
