The TRENDnet TI-PG102 is an industrial network switch with ten Gigabit ports, eight of which deliver Power over Ethernet Plus. It is built for places where an ordinary desktop switch would struggle, such as factories, outdoor cabinets and control panels, and it mounts on a DIN rail.

Ports and PoE power

Eight ports are Gigabit PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at), which carry both data and power to devices such as IP cameras, wireless access points and sensors. The other two are shared Gigabit RJ-45/SFP ports, so each can use either a copper cable or an SFP fibre module for longer runs. TRENDnet specifies 240W of total PoE power and 20Gbps switching capacity. PoE+ devices can draw up to about 30W each at the switch, but the total across all ports must stay within that 240W.

Built for industrial conditions

The switch has an IP30 metal enclosure, which protects against solid objects over a few millimetres but not against water, so it belongs inside a cabinet or enclosure. TRENDnet specifies operation from -40 to 75°C (-40 to 167°F) and for shock (IEC 60068-2-27), freefall (IEC 60068-2-32) and vibration (IEC 60068-2-6). A grounding point is provided, which TRENDnet says protects equipment from external electrical surges.

Power inputs

It has dual redundant power inputs with overload current protection, so a second supply can keep it running if the first fails. The power supply is sold separately, and TRENDnet names models TI-S24052, TI-S24048 and 48VDC3000. PoE+ switches typically need a supply that suits the PoE load, so check the supply's wattage.

Mounting

An integrated DIN-rail mount is included, along with wall-mount hardware. DIN rails are standard in control cabinets, so the switch sits alongside other industrial equipment.

Compliance and support

TRENDnet lists NDAA and TAA compliance, which some government customers require, and Lifetime Manufacturer Protection, both for the U.S. and Canada only. The brand adds that English-speaking support is available in normal business hours.

Who it suits

It suits integrators and technicians connecting PoE cameras, access points or industrial devices in cabinets, plants and similar environments.

What to check before you buy

  • Total load: add up the draw of every PoE device and compare it with 240W.
  • Power supply: it is sold separately, so confirm the voltage and wattage you need.
  • Enclosure: IP30 is not weatherproof; plan a cabinet.
  • Management: check whether you need managed features such as VLANs.
  • SFP modules: confirm the type and distance you need.
  • Regional terms: the warranty and compliance claims apply to the U.S. and Canada only.
