The TP-Link TL-SG2210MP is a JetStream smart managed switch with eight Gigabit PoE+ ports and two Gigabit SFP slots. It sits between a basic unmanaged switch and a full enterprise one: you get VLANs, traffic prioritization and security controls, plus integration with TP-Link's Omada system for managing several devices together. It targets small businesses, camera systems and home networks that have outgrown plug-and-play hardware.

Ports and PoE power

Eight RJ45 ports run at 10/100/1000 Mbps and support PoE+ (802.3at, also 802.3af). TP-Link lists up to 30 W per port and a total PoE allowance of 150 W. That allowance is shared, so the total matters more than the per-port maximum: eight devices drawing 30 W each would need 240 W. Many access points and IP cameras draw well under 30 W, so the allowance usually covers a full set of them. Add up your devices' draw before deciding.

What the SFP slots are for

The two SFP slots take small pluggable modules, which are typically used for fibre uplinks to another switch or building, or for a direct-attach link. They let you run longer distances than copper Ethernet allows. The module is not part of the switch, so check the type and speed the slots support in the manual before buying one.

Smart managed features

TP-Link lists 802.1Q VLAN, IP-MAC-Port binding, ACL, port security, DoS defence, storm control, DHCP snooping and 802.1X RADIUS authentication. In general, VLANs separate traffic into logical groups, such as cameras apart from office computers, and ACLs and port security restrict what can talk to what. The listing also names L2/L3/L4 QoS to prioritize voice or video traffic, IGMP snooping, link aggregation and flow control, plus IPv6 and static routing.

Omada SDN and remote management

The switch integrates with Omada, TP-Link's software-defined networking platform that brings switches, access points and gateways under one interface. Control options are an Omada hardware controller, a software controller or a cloud-based controller, and standalone mode also works. TP-Link notes that SDN controllers work only with SDN switches, access points and gateways, so confirm that your existing gear is SDN compatible or can be upgraded. Remote cloud access and the Omada app allow management of multiple sites from one place; contact TP-Link for cloud plan details.

Size, warranty and support

The unit measures about 11.6 × 7.1 × 1.7 inches (roughly 29 × 18 × 4.3 cm) and weighs 3.2 lb (about 1.5 kg). TP-Link lists a five-year warranty and free technical support Monday to Friday, 6 am to 6 pm Pacific time.

Who it suits

It suits small offices, shops and homes with several PoE devices that want network segmentation and monitoring. It is also a fit for anyone already running Omada access points or a gateway who wants a switch that joins the same system.

What to check before you buy

  • PoE totals: sum the wattage of every powered device and compare it with 150 W.
  • Port count: only eight ports supply PoE, and two are SFP, so confirm that ten ports are enough.
  • SDN compatibility: if you already own Omada gear, check that it supports the SDN version.
  • Skills: managed switches reward some networking knowledge; read the setup guide first.
  • Uplink needs: decide whether you will use the SFP slots and what modules you need.
  • Mounting and airflow: follow the manual on placement and ventilation.
  • Support hours: check whether the listed support times suit your time zone.

The short version

  • Ten-port Gigabit smart managed switch: eight PoE+ ports plus two SFP slots.
  • 150 W total PoE allowance, up to 30 W per port.
  • VLANs, ACLs, QoS, IGMP snooping, link aggregation and 802.1X security.
  • Integrates with Omada SDN, with standalone mode available.
  • Five-year warranty as stated by TP-Link.
