TP-Link Festa F65-Outdoor AX3000 Access Point: features, specs and who it suits

The TP-Link Festa F65-Outdoor is a weatherproof Wi-Fi 6 access point for extending a wired network outdoors, for example across a yard, patio, car park or the grounds of a small business. It also suits indoor use. This page explains the specs and one important compatibility point.

What an access point does

An access point is not a router. It connects by cable to an existing network and adds wireless coverage. If you have a router with weak outdoor signal, running a cable to an access point in the right spot is typically more reliable than trying to push a signal through walls. The F65-Outdoor has a Gigabit Ethernet port for that wired connection.

Wi-Fi 6 and AX3000 speeds

TP-Link lists dual-band speeds of up to 3000 Mbps in total: 2402 Mbps on 5GHz (using 160MHz channels) and 574 Mbps on 2.4GHz. It uses 1024-QAM, Long OFDM Symbol and four spatial streams, which TP-Link says boosts multi-user throughput. These are theoretical maximums for the radios combined; a single device will see less. MU-MIMO lets the access point serve several devices at once.

Mesh and roaming

TP-Link says the device supports mesh, seamless roaming and a self-organizing network. Together, these are meant to let you add several units and have devices move between them without dropping connections.

Built for the outdoors

The enclosure is sealed to IP67, which generally means it is dust-tight and can survive temporary immersion in water. TP-Link says dedicated high-gain antennas and high-power amplifiers support the coverage. Its design is discreet enough for indoor spaces too.

Power: PoE and passive PoE

The F65-Outdoor supports PoE+ and passive PoE, and an adapter for passive PoE is included. Power over Ethernet sends power and data over one cable, which suits places with no nearby outlet. Check the power source you plan to use against the manual.

Festa Cloud management: not Omada

TP-Link lists cloud management through the Festa app or web portal, with Zero-Touch Provisioning and self-organizing networking for simple setup. TP-Link is clear that Festa devices do not work with TP-Link Omada controllers. They need Festa Cloud, and standalone mode does not apply. If you already run Omada, this unit will not join that system.

Size and weight

It measures about 11.1 x 4.2 x 2.5 inches (28 x 11 x 6 cm) and weighs 1.7 lb (about 0.8 kg).

Who it suits

It suits small businesses, cafés, workshops, farms and homes with a wired network that need outdoor coverage and want simple cloud management without a dedicated IT person.

What to check before you buy

  • Ecosystem: confirm you are happy with Festa Cloud, since Omada is not supported.
  • Cabling: plan an Ethernet run and a PoE source or the included passive PoE adapter.
  • Mounting: check the placement, height and mounting hardware.
  • Coverage: walls, trees and distance reduce range, so plan the location.
  • Weather sealing: follow the manual on sealing cable connections.
  • Rules: check local rules on outdoor wireless and installation.

The short version

  • A Wi-Fi 6 outdoor access point with listed speeds up to 3000 Mbps.

  • Gigabit Ethernet, PoE+ and passive PoE with an adapter included.
  • Managed through the Festa app or web portal; it does not work with Omada.
