The TCL A1s is a portable projector with Google TV built in, so it can stream without a separate box. It projects a native 1080p picture from 45 to 150 inches and sets up its own focus and image shape. It is designed to move between a living room, bedroom and patio.
What 600 ISO lumens means
ISO lumens is a standardized way of measuring projector brightness. Many projectors quote higher "LED lumens" or "peak" figures that are not comparable. At 600 ISO lumens, TCL's projector is generally at its best in a dim or dark room, where the picture looks bright and contrasty. In a room with strong daylight, the image will look washed out, whatever the projector. TCL lists TrueHue Tech and four image presets for adjusting the picture.
Native 1080p and screen size
Native 1080p means the projector's chip has 1920 x 1080 pixels, rather than a lower resolution scaled up. TCL gives the screen range as 45 to 150 inches. Larger images are less bright and less sharp, so the distance you can fit in your room sets the practical size.
Built-in Google TV
TCL says the A1s runs Google TV with access to more than 10,000 apps, including streaming services, and supports Google Assistant voice control. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are included. Individual apps and their availability depend on the region and the services you subscribe to.
Automatic setup
Auto focus, keystone correction, screen alignment and obstacle avoidance work together to produce a rectangular image. Keystone correction reshapes the picture when the projector is angled or off to one side, and obstacle avoidance moves the image to avoid items in the way. A 0 to 15 degree adjustable stand tilts it. Digital correction can slightly soften the picture, so placing the projector square to the wall gives the cleanest result.
Sound
Two 8W full-range speakers provide built-in audio, with four sound presets and AI auto tuning. Built-in speakers suit casual viewing, but for a film night a soundbar or speaker over Bluetooth is a common step up.
Noise and light-source life
TCL says triple-airflow cooling keeps noise to about 30 dB. The 30,000-hour LED light source life is TCL's figure, which would be years of regular evening use, and the sealed optical path is intended to keep dust out.
Portability
It measures 5.7 x 5.4 x 9.1 inches and weighs 3.9 lb (about 1.8 kg). A VersaGrip handle and touch-sensitive buttons keep the design tidy and easy to carry.
Who it suits
It suits people who want a big-screen picture in a bedroom, a den or outdoors in the evening, and who value a self-contained setup with streaming included.
What to check before you buy
- Room light: plan for a darkened room or evening use.
- Throw distance: check the manual for how far from the wall you need to be for your target screen size.
- Surface: a plain light wall or a dedicated screen gives a better picture.
- Apps and accounts: confirm your streaming services are supported and that you have the needed subscriptions.
- Audio: check that the speaker is loud enough for your room or whether you'd add external audio.
