The REOLINK RLK8-800PT4 is a wired security kit that pairs an 8-channel network video recorder (NVR) with PoE cameras that can pan, tilt and follow movement. The recorder has a built-in 2TB hard drive. It is meant for people who want one camera to cover a wide area instead of fixing its view on a single spot.

Pan, tilt and auto tracking

Each camera pans through 355° and tilts through 50°. When it detects motion, REOLINK says the camera turns by itself to follow the target. You can also save up to 64 preset points and jump to a key area with one click. A moving camera typically covers far more ground than a fixed one, though it can only look one way at a time, so placement still matters.

4K picture and night vision

The cameras record at 4K with an F1.6 aperture. A lower f-number means a wider opening that lets in more light, which typically helps in dim conditions. For the dark, REOLINK lists 3000K warm lights and IR LEDs, giving both colour and black-and-white night vision. The warm light brightness can be adjusted and scheduled.

Smart detection and alerts

The system detects people, vehicles and animals, which REOLINK says greatly reduces false alarms. Alerts can arrive as app push messages, email or an NVR buzzer. Two-way talk lets you speak through the camera, for example to greet a visitor.

PoE setup and storage

PoE (Power over Ethernet) means one network cable per camera carries both power and data. REOLINK says an integrated bracket allows flexible installation. The kit's 2TB drive handles 24/7 recording and is expandable to 12TB. How long the footage lasts depends on resolution, frame rate and activity in view.

Apps and support

You can watch live video through the REOLINK app or client, with recording schedules and motion zones adjustable on either, and up to 20 user accounts are supported. REOLINK also lists a 2-year after-sales service and a support team.

Size and weight

The packaged kit is listed at about 15.9 x 9.3 x 13.4 inches and 15.6 lb (about 7 kg).

Who it suits

It suits owners of larger yards, driveways or business frontages who want cameras that follow activity, and who are comfortable running network cable. It also fits those who prefer local recording.

What to check before you buy

  • Cable runs: measure from each camera spot to the recorder and compare with the cable lengths included.
  • Mounting spot: moving cameras need space to turn without hitting walls or eaves.
  • Recorder location: it needs mains power and a connection to your router, in a ventilated spot.
  • Storage: decide how long you want to keep footage.
  • Privacy rules: check local rules on recording, especially near property edges.
  • Installation: follow the manual and local codes for drilling and outdoor cabling.
