The eufy Security S4 Max (model T8E00) is a wired security camera system: four cameras connect to a network video recorder (NVR) that powers them, records their video and runs the AI. Because the cameras use Power over Ethernet (PoE), one cable per camera carries both power and data. That makes it a different proposition from battery or Wi-Fi cameras, and it suits permanent installations.

Bullet and PTZ in one camera

Each camera has three views from two lenses. eufy says the upper 4K wide-angle lens gives a fixed 122° view, while the lower 2K PTZ lens offers 8× auto-zoom and 360° pan. The PTZ part can lock onto a subject and track it in centred close-ups from up to 164 ft (50 m) away. The fixed lens still shows the full scene, so you do not have to switch between views.

What PoE means

With PoE, a single Ethernet cable runs from the NVR or a PoE switch to each camera. There are no batteries to charge and no reliance on Wi-Fi signal strength. eufy says a wired setup with a pre-installed hard drive supports 24/7 recording, and it points out that this avoids the gaps that can come with Wi-Fi or battery cameras. The tradeoff is cable work: you will need to route Ethernet to each camera position, and the cable length limits are in the manual.

The NVR and storage

The NVR supports 8 cameras and can reach 16 channels using a PoE switch. It comes with a pre-installed hard drive, which eufy lists as expandable to 16TB. Footage is kept locally, and the brand lists smart video search by keyword with no subscription fee for that feature.

Local AI and tracking

eufy describes a local AI agent running on an 8-core processor rated at 6 TOPS, with custom no-go zones and alerts. Live Cross-Cam Tracking means that when one camera detects motion, others adjust to follow the subject. Auto-framing and group tracking keep moving subjects in view until they leave the scene.

Weatherproofing and talk-back

The cameras are rated IP65, which in general means protection from dust and water jets. Two-way talk uses AI noise reduction to filter background noise. The eufy ecosystem note says the NVR can also connect to eufy battery Wi-Fi cameras, doorbells and sensors. The listing asks users to update the eufy app to the latest version.

Size

The package is listed at about 13.5 x 7.1 x 17.4 inches.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners and small businesses planning a permanent, wired installation who want continuous recording and local storage. It is less convenient for renters or anyone who cannot run cable.

What to check before you buy

  • Cable runs: measure the distance from the NVR or switch to each camera.
  • NVR location: it needs power, a network connection and a secure, ventilated spot.
  • Expansion: if you plan more than four cameras, check the channel limits and whether a PoE switch is needed.
  • App version: make sure your phone supports the required eufy app version.
  • Privacy rules: check local rules on recording near neighbours, public areas and employees.
  • Mounting: look at the included hardware and the surface you will mount to.
