This Reolink system pairs the Reolink Home Hub with two Lumus outdoor cameras. The cameras plug into the mains, connect over Wi-Fi and send their recordings to the hub, which stores them and sounds an alarm. Here is what each part does and what to confirm before buying.

The Home Hub as the centre of the system

The hub is a small device that acts as a storage, alarm and management centre. Instead of each camera recording separately, they all send video to the hub. It supports up to 8 Reolink cameras, excluding 4G models, so you can add more later.

2K video and a 107° view

The two Lumus cameras record in 2K QHD and have a 107° field of view. That is wider than a typical narrow-angle camera, so each one covers more of a driveway, porch or garden. Reolink says two cameras cover more of the area around your home.

Plug-in power and dual-band Wi-Fi

The cameras are powered by a plug-in connection, so there are no batteries to recharge. The trade-off is that each camera needs to be within reach of an outlet. Both support 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi. In general, 5GHz offers more speed and less interference, while 2.4GHz reaches further.

AI detection and the hub's siren

When a connected camera detects a person, vehicle or animal, the hub can sound an alert. Reolink lists 11 preset ringtones and 5 custom voices, so you can choose the sound that suits your home. Having the siren indoors, inside the hub, is a different approach from a siren on the camera itself.

Storage and data protection

A 256GB microSD card for the hub is included. The hub supports up to two 512GB microSD cards for more capacity. Reolink lists built-in AES-128 encryption and anti-theft algorithms to guard against unauthorised access to the data.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners who want a small, expandable system with local storage and who have outdoor outlets near where the cameras will sit. Anyone planning to add more Reolink cameras later may also like the hub's room to grow.

What to check before you buy

  • Outlet access: plug-in cameras need power near their mounting spots.
  • Wi-Fi: check the signal at each camera location.
  • Camera types: the hub works with Reolink cameras, up to 8, but not 4G models.
  • Storage: think about how many days of footage you want, and what is in the box.
  • Hub placement: the hub measures about 3.9 x 3.6 x 2.4 in (10 x 9 x 6 cm), so give it a spot near your router and a socket.
  • Rules: check local rules on cameras that face shared spaces, and follow the manual.
