The aosu C7L is a kit of four compact bullet-style outdoor cameras that run on solar power and record to local storage. It is built to start with the essentials and grow, since more cameras can be added to the same system later.

A split solar panel

Each camera has a solar panel that is separate from the camera body. That lets you mount the camera where the view is best and put the panel where the sun is, which can be a different spot. aosu says this reduces manual recharging, and it also notes that solar performance varies with sunlight, season, placement and settings. Winter and shaded positions are the usual weak points for any solar camera.

One system, one app

The cameras connect through the aosuBase, which brings them into one system for whole-home management. aosu states there is local video storage and no mandatory subscription. Storage can be expanded up to 1TB with a microSD card, which is sold separately. The app can show up to four cameras on screen at once, which is handy for a quick check of the whole property.

Camera-to-camera tracking

If a person walks past several cameras, Camera-to-Camera Tracking groups them into a single timeline. This is intended to reduce repeat alerts and speed up checking, since you watch one story and not four separate clips.

PIR plus AI detection

The cameras combine a PIR (passive infrared) sensor, which senses body heat movement, with AI human detection. Using both is meant to focus alerts on people and not on random movement such as branches or insects. aosu notes that detection varies with placement, distance, lighting and settings, so adjusting sensitivity and position is part of getting good results.

Night vision and deterrence

Full-colour night vision is meant to make it easier to see who is coming or going after dark. Deterrence options include light, sound and instant notifications. The cameras are IP65 rated, which typically means protection from dust and rain jets, and aosu says the design withstands rain, snow and harsh conditions.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners who want a few outdoor cameras with no wiring, centralised management and local recording, and who may add cameras over time.

What to check before you buy

  • Panel position: the cable between panel and camera has a set length, so check the mounting plan against the manual.
  • microSD card: it is sold separately, so plan for one if you want more than the built-in capacity.
  • Coverage: confirm four cameras cover your key entrances and yard.
  • Base: the aosuBase needs power and a network connection.
  • Resolution: this kit records in 2K, so consider that if you want to identify distant details.
  • Privacy rules: check local rules on recording outdoors.
