The Reolink Duo 2 WiFi is an outdoor security camera with two lenses that together form one very wide 4K picture. It connects over Wi-Fi 6 and includes spotlights for colour night vision. Here is what its specs mean and what to confirm before you choose it.

Two lenses, one wide picture

Most cameras have one lens and a narrow view. The Duo 2 combines the pictures from two lenses into a single image with a 180° viewing angle. Reolink says that gives a broader view than a single lens, so one camera can cover a wide area such as a backyard, a driveway or the side of a house.

The picture is 4K, which Reolink lists as 8MP. In general, 4K is about four times the pixel count of 1080p, so there is more detail when you zoom into a recording.

Colour night vision to 100 ft

Spotlights allow a full-colour picture at night, out to 100 ft (about 30 m) according to Reolink, in place of black-and-white infrared. You can turn the spotlights off manually or adjust their brightness. Practical range depends on the scene, as walls, trees and ground cover all change how far the light carries.

Detecting people, vehicles and animals

The camera uses shape analysis to tell people, vehicles and animals apart. Reolink says this cuts false alarms compared with plain motion detection, which can be set off by swaying branches or passing headlights. A smart event filter in playback helps you search for the clips that matter.

Wi-Fi 6 and dual-band support

The camera supports Wi-Fi 6 and both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Wi-Fi 6 typically brings better range, flexibility and throughput. A higher-resolution camera sends a lot of data, so a steady connection matters. You will still need a good signal at the mounting spot, and a Wi-Fi 6 router will help get the most from it.

Remote access and apps

You can see live video and play back recordings through the Reolink App and Client. Reolink says there are no subscription fees for remote access.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners who want to cover a wide outdoor area with a single camera rather than several narrow ones. It also suits anyone who likes colour footage at night.

What to check before you buy

  • Wi-Fi strength: check the signal where you will mount it, since 4K video needs a stable link.
  • Power: confirm how it is powered, as listed in the box and manual, and whether an outlet is nearby.
  • Storage: check how recordings are stored and what extras you need.
  • Size and mounting: it measures about 7.7 x 4.1 x 2.2 in (20 x 10 x 6 cm) and weighs 1.5 lb (about 0.7 kg).
  • Light and privacy: consider whether spotlights could shine into neighbours' windows, and check local rules on camera placement.
