The aosu D1 Max (model C9S13) is a four-camera outdoor security kit that runs on solar power and records to local storage. It is aimed at homeowners who want to watch the front yard, driveway and sides of a house without running cables. Here is what the main specs mean in practice.
What 4K and full-colour night vision mean
The cameras record 4K Ultra HD video at 8MP, with 6x digital zoom. aosu says this is sharp enough to see faces and read licence plates from up to 33 ft (10 m). Digital zoom crops into the image rather than using a lens, so detail naturally falls off as you zoom in, and real-world results depend on distance and lighting.
For night, built-in spotlights allow full-colour video. An infrared mode gives a black-and-white picture instead, which is less conspicuous. Having both lets you choose between a visible light that may deter visitors and a discreet view.
Pan, tilt and tracking
Each camera pans and tilts to cover 360°, which typically means one camera can replace two or three fixed ones in an open area. aosu says the cameras follow people and vehicles automatically as they move. A Panorama View feature moves the camera to a chosen spot with one tap in the app.
AI detection and the Smart Vehicle Guard
On-device AI sorts people and vehicles from other motion, which aims to cut alerts triggered by leaves, shadows or passing animals. You can set activity zones so only certain parts of the view trigger alerts, and you can set light and sound warnings. Smart Vehicle Guard watches parked vehicles and alerts you to movement nearby.
One base, several cameras
The kit works with the aosuBase, a hub that connects the cameras. aosu says it gives more stable connectivity and wider signal coverage than cameras that each join the home Wi-Fi. Cross-camera tracking joins clips of the same event from different cameras into a single timeline, and clips are tagged and grouped in the app so finding events is quicker.
Storage and power
Recordings are stored locally. The base includes 32GB, expandable up to 1TB, and aosu states that no subscription is required. The cameras are solar powered, with a detached panel so you can mount the camera where you need the view and the panel where the sun is. Solar charging depends on daylight, season and placement, so a shaded wall will perform differently from a sunny one. Setup is wire-free and DIY.
Who it suits
The kit suits owners of standard single-family homes who want coverage of several outdoor zones, prefer local storage and do not want to run power cables. The system can be expanded with extra cameras.
What to check before you buy
- Sun exposure: find spots where the solar panels will get daily light, including in winter.
- Coverage: map the areas you want to watch and confirm four cameras are enough.
- Storage: decide whether 32GB is enough or whether you will add a larger card, up to the 1TB limit.
- Base placement: the aosuBase needs a spot with power and a network connection; check the manual.
- Mounting: check that your wall or post can hold the camera and panel.
- Privacy rules: check local rules on filming public areas and neighbouring property.
