The REOLINK Argus 4 Pro is a battery-powered outdoor camera sold with a solar panel. It combines two lenses into one wide 4K picture, so a single camera can cover a driveway or yard that might otherwise need two. Because it runs on a battery and Wi-Fi, it can be mounted without running power cable.

How the dual lenses make a 180° view

Two lenses sit side by side and the camera stitches their images into a single 180° view. REOLINK says this removes blind spots and keeps distortion low compared with a single fisheye lens. A wider field of view generally means fewer cameras for the same area, though objects at the very edges of the picture will appear smaller.

What 4K means in practice

The camera records at 8MP. More pixels typically mean you can zoom into saved footage and still pick out detail, though lighting and distance still limit what you can see. REOLINK also says the camera uses less battery in night vision mode, giving about 30% longer battery life.

ColorX night vision

ColorX is REOLINK's name for full-colour night vision. The listing cites an F/1.0 aperture and a 1/1.8-inch sensor. A wide aperture lets in more light, and a larger sensor generally collects more of it, which helps produce colour images in dim conditions without relying on infrared alone. A built-in IR-cut filter switches between day and night modes.

Wi-Fi 6 and streaming

REOLINK calls it the first solar battery camera with dual-band Wi-Fi 6. It says this allows smoother 4K streaming and lower latency than 2.4GHz-only cameras. To benefit, your router needs to support 5GHz, and signal strength at the camera location matters. Check the signal there before you mount it.

Solar power

The included 6W solar panel keeps the battery topped up. REOLINK says ten minutes of direct sunlight is enough to support a normal day's use, defined as 20 motion events per day of 15 seconds each. That is a brand estimate under set conditions: a camera that triggers often, or a panel in shade, will use more than it collects.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners who want a wide view of a yard, driveway or side entrance without trenching cable, and who have a spot with decent sun and Wi-Fi. It is less suited to places with little daylight or heavy traffic that triggers constant recording.

What to check before you buy

  • Wi-Fi signal: confirm a strong 5GHz signal where the camera will go, and that your router supports it.
  • Sunlight: pick a mounting spot where the panel gets direct light for part of the day.
  • Activity level: busy scenes drain a battery faster than quiet ones.
  • Storage: check how recordings are saved and what extra storage you need.
  • Mounting: follow the manual for mounting height, panel placement and cable routing.
  • Privacy and local rules: check what rules apply to recording public areas or neighbouring property.

The short version

  • A wire-free 4K (8MP) camera with two lenses stitched into a 180° view.
  • ColorX full-colour night vision with an F/1.0 aperture and 1/1.8-inch sensor.
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi 6; a router with 5GHz support is needed for the full benefit.
  • 6W solar panel; REOLINK rates ten minutes of direct sun as enough for a normal day of use.
  • Best where there is sun and a solid Wi-Fi signal.
