The monTEK motorized ceiling TV mount hangs a television from the ceiling and lowers it to viewing height on command. It also turns the screen around a full circle, so one TV can serve a living room, kitchen or dining area. It takes TVs of 37 to 86 inches, and this page explains the specs and what a ceiling installation involves.

The motorized lift

A telescopic column drops the TV from the ceiling and raises it again. monTEK gives the adjustable height range as 35.4 to 51.2 inches (about 90 to 130 cm), which it presents as useful for high ceilings and open-plan rooms, where a wall is not available or is far from the seats. Two memory settings save favourite heights so the TV returns to them at one touch.

360° rotation

The motorized swivel turns from +180° to -180°. This lets the screen point at different parts of a room, such as the sofa, the kitchen counter or the table. Rotation and lift can be controlled from a remote, a smartphone app or voice commands, according to the brand.

Tilt and levelling

For glare and angle, the TV tilts from +3° to -20°, which is a lot of downward tilt for a screen hung from above. A ±3° horizontal level adjustment lets you correct for a ceiling that isn't perfectly flat.

Capacity and compatibility

monTEK says the mount carries flat or curved TVs of 37 to 86 inches weighing up to 143 lb (about 65 kg). It supports VESA patterns from 200x100 mm to 600x400 mm and is built from steel and aluminium. The brand says it passed a 4x overload strength test. The mount weighs 26.4 lb (about 12 kg) and has a long, narrow profile, around 39.6 inches long.

Cable management

Cords run inside the columns, which keeps the look clean. Plan the route of both power and signal cables to the TV, and remember the mount itself also needs power.

Installing on a ceiling

A ceiling mount supports the full weight of a TV overhead, so the structure matters. Joists or other solid structural elements are normally required, and the manual and local building codes apply. If you are not sure what lies above your ceiling, a qualified installer can check it. Wiring and power for the motors should be done as the manual directs.

Who it suits

It suits rooms where wall space is limited, high or sloped ceilings, and open-plan spaces where the TV has to face several directions. It is not intended for a simple bedroom setup where a wall bracket would do.

What to check before you buy

  • TV size, weight and VESA: 37-86 inches, up to 143 lb, 200x100 to 600x400 mm.
  • Ceiling structure: confirm what is above it and how it can be fixed.
  • Height range: compare 35.4-51.2 inches of travel with your ceiling height and seating.
  • Power and cables: plan the outlet and the cable route.
  • Control options: check how the app and voice features are set up.
  • Room clearance: make sure the TV can rotate without hitting anything.
