The monTEK US-DS-MA1001BK is a single-monitor arm for large screens, including 57-inch ultrawides, rated for up to 59.4 lb. It holds the display above the desk on a gas-spring arm so you can reposition it easily. It suits anyone whose monitor is too big or heavy for a standard stand, or who wants the desk back.

Weight and size range

The arm takes flat and curved monitors from 17 to 57 inches and up to 59.4 lb. monTEK names the Samsung Odyssey G9 and LG monitors among the types it can carry, as well as most 57-inch curved screens on the market. Ultrawides are heavy and wide, so a rated arm matters. Compare your monitor's weight, without its stand, against the limit.

The arm uses 75×75 mm or 100×100 mm VESA holes, the standard patterns on the back of a monitor. If yours has none, you need your own VESA adapter, which isn't included.

How the gas spring works

A gas spring offsets the weight of the screen so the arm moves with light pressure and stays put. monTEK says this spring has had a life test of more than 20,000 cycles, and that the design reduces wobble so the screen stays stable while you type. If the arm drifts up or down with your particular monitor, a gas-spring arm normally has an adjustment screw for tension, as the manual describes.

Adjustments

According to the listing:

  • Tilt: +75° to -75°.
  • Swivel: 180°.
  • Rotation: ±90°, for landscape or portrait.
  • Height range: 11.3 to 22 inches.
  • Extension: up to 19.7 inches.

The 360° adjustment lets you place the screen at the right height and distance, which supports a comfortable posture. As a general rule, the top of the screen should sit near eye level, at about an arm's length.

Construction and mounting

The arm combines steel and aluminium. Two ways of mounting are provided: a C-clamp that holds the desk edge, and a grommet mount through a hole in the desk. The quick-release VESA plate speeds up fitting the monitor, and the components are labelled. monTEK says the design can save up to 30% of installation time. Check the manual for the desk thickness and material the clamp supports; glass and hollow desks can be unsuitable.

Cable management and desk space

Integrated cable management routes wires along the arm for a neater desk. Lifting the monitor frees space for a keyboard, a notebook or a desk lamp, which monTEK suggests for studios, offices and gaming rooms.

Who it suits

It suits people with an ultrawide or heavy monitor, desks that are short on space, and anyone who wants flexible positioning for gaming or long work sessions.
