The Inateck KB04122 is a protective case with a built-in keyboard and trackpad for the iPad (A16, 10th generation) and several 11-inch iPad Air and iPad Pro models. It turns a tablet into something closer to a small laptop for typing, study and office tasks, and it detaches when you want the iPad on its own.
Which iPads it fits
Compatibility is the first thing to get right. Inateck says the case is for:
- the iPad (A16) and the 10th generation iPad;
- the iPad Air 11-inch (M4 2026, M3 and M2);
- the iPad Air 5th and 4th generation (10.9 inch);
- the iPad Pro 11-inch, 1st to 4th generation.
The listing also gives model numbers for the Pro models, such as A2435 for the 2022 version and A2301 for the 2021 version. The model number is printed on the back of your iPad, so compare it with the brand's list. Inateck says the case is only for these models.
Slim and light
The case is 0.3 inches thick and weighs 450 g, which Inateck says is 200 g lighter than other full-function keyboards. The packaged size in the listing is about 9.9 x 7.5 x 0.6 inches and 1.0 lb. A thin, light case is easy to carry in a bag, though lighter cases also generally mean less padding than a heavy rugged one.
Magnetic attachment and angles
The case connects magnetically, and Inateck says it detaches in about one second. This lets you use the iPad alone for reading or drawing and reattach the keyboard for writing. The back panel supports both horizontal and vertical positions, and the brand says it works for work, study, films, drawing and reading. Check how many angles the stand offers before relying on it for something specific.
Typing feel
The keys use a scissor-switch structure with 1 mm key travel. Scissor switches are the low-profile design used in many laptops, and short travel suits thin cases, though it feels different from a full-depth desktop keyboard. People who type a lot may want a few days to adjust.
Trackpad
The full-area multi-touch trackpad supports palm rejection, which means it ignores accidental touches from your palms while typing. Inateck says it responds without delay and supports iPadOS gestures such as clicking, browsing and switching between apps.
Who it suits
It suits students, remote workers and travellers who want to type on an iPad and carry as little as possible. It is a poor match for anyone with a different iPad model, such as a larger Pro, a mini or an older standard iPad.
What to check before you buy
- Exact model: match your iPad's model number to the compatibility list.
- Layout: confirm the keyboard layout and language suit you.
- Power and pairing: check the manual on charging, battery life and connection.
- Protection: decide if a thin case gives enough protection for how you carry the iPad.
- Typing: consider whether short key travel suits you.
