The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 Ti WINDFORCE OC 8G (model GV-N406TWF2OC-8GD) is a graphics card built around NVIDIA's RTX 4060 Ti graphics processor. It has two fans, 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a metal back plate. It is meant for desktop PCs used for gaming and for creative applications that can use a graphics card.
The Ada Lovelace architecture
The card is based on NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture, which GIGABYTE calls ultra-efficient. In general, a newer architecture aims to deliver more performance for each watt than the generation before it. The listing also highlights full ray tracing, a lighting technique that simulates how light bounces, reflects and casts shadows. It looks more realistic than traditional methods but demands a lot of processing power.
DLSS 3 and the Tensor Cores
The card supports NVIDIA DLSS 3 and has 4th-generation Tensor Cores. These are specialised processors for AI workloads. In games that support DLSS, they can render at a lower resolution and upscale the picture, and DLSS 3 also generates extra frames, which typically raises frame rates. GIGABYTE says the Tensor Cores deliver up to four times the performance with DLSS 3. That figure applies only in supported games and under conditions set by NVIDIA, so results vary from title to title.
RT Cores
Ray tracing calculations run on dedicated 3rd-generation RT Cores, which GIGABYTE says deliver up to twice the ray tracing performance. Again, this depends on the game and settings, and it is a comparison with an earlier generation, not a guarantee.
What 8GB on a 128-bit bus means
The card has 8GB of GDDR6 memory on a 128-bit interface. Video memory holds textures and other assets for the scene, so it matters most at high resolutions and with high-detail texture settings. The bus width affects how quickly data moves between the graphics processor and memory. Some recent games at high detail can use more than 8GB, so consider the resolution and detail settings you plan to use.
WINDFORCE cooling and the back plate
GIGABYTE's WINDFORCE cooling system uses two fans to move air across a heatsink. The metal back plate adds rigidity and protects the circuit board. "OC" in the name indicates a factory overclock, meaning the card is set to run at somewhat higher clock speeds than NVIDIA's reference design. GIGABYTE's listing does not state the exact clocks, so check its specifications page.
Size and installation
The card measures about 7.9 by 4.7 by 1.6 inches (roughly 20 by 12 by 4 cm), a fairly compact size for a graphics card. It fits into a PCI Express x16 slot. Power connectors and the recommended power supply wattage are not in the listing, so check the manufacturer's specification before buying.
Who it suits
It suits desktop owners upgrading an older card, builders putting together a gaming PC, and creators using software that benefits from NVIDIA's AI and ray tracing hardware. It is less suited to small cases where length or slot thickness is tight, which you should always measure.
What to check before you buy
- Case clearance: compare the card's length and thickness with the space in your case.
- Power supply: confirm the wattage and the connector type the card needs.
- Motherboard slot: you need a free PCI Express x16 slot.
- Display outputs: check the card's ports against your monitor's inputs.
- Games and software: look at the resolution, settings and features, like DLSS 3, that matter to you.
- Drivers and cooling: make sure your case has adequate airflow.
