This eufy Security set has two SoloCam S340 outdoor cameras and a HomeBase S380 (HomeBase 3). The cameras are wireless and solar-powered, and they pan and tilt to cover a wide area. The HomeBase stores recordings and sounds an alarm. Here is what the specs mean for watching a house exterior.
Two lenses, 3K and zoom
eufy describes "dual-camera" clarity, recording in 3K resolution, and says it shows who is approaching your home from up to 50 feet (about 15 m). The camera offers 8x zoom. Zoom on a camera generally combines optical and digital magnification, and digital zoom loses sharpness, so the clearest detail is usually closer to the lens.
Solar power
The cameras have a removable solar panel. eufy says it keeps them running, so installation is a one-time job. In general, solar-powered cameras depend on daylight, so the amount of sun at the mounting spot, the season and how often the camera records all affect the battery. Place the panel where it gets direct light, and check the manual.
360° pan and tilt
eufy says there are no blind spots with 360° pan and tilt, so one camera can cover a front porch, a backyard or a driveway. A camera that moves can cover more space than a fixed one, but it can only look one way at a time, so choose the angles that matter most.
Local storage
Recordings are saved locally: 16GB is built in and storage can be expanded up to 16TB. eufy notes the operating system uses part of the built-in capacity, and that push notifications with thumbnail previews need preview images stored temporarily in the cloud. Local storage means the video stays on your own device, and you should think about where the HomeBase sits.
HomeBase 3 and the alarm
The HomeBase S380 acts as the hub for the cameras. According to eufy, it has an integrated 100dB alarm siren that can be triggered by motion from connected eufy Security devices. A siren can discourage visitors you don't expect, but check local noise rules and set it up thoughtfully so it doesn't trigger on passing traffic or pets.
Setup and placement
The HomeBase needs power and a network connection in your home, and the cameras connect to it wirelessly. Place cameras where they can see the area you care about, not into neighbours' windows or property, and check privacy rules in your area on recording outdoors.
Who it suits
It suits owners of houses with a porch, driveway or yard who want outdoor coverage without running power cables, and those who prefer local recording.
What to check before you buy
- Sun: the hours of direct light where each panel will sit.
- Wi-Fi and hub: a spot for the HomeBase and the signal strength at each camera.
- Mounting: the wall or post, height and tools you'll need.
- Storage: whether 16GB is enough or you want an expansion card or drive.
- Alarm: how loud 100dB is for your neighbours.
- Privacy: where you may point cameras, and who needs to know.
