The Blackview Active 5 is a rugged Android 15 tablet with an 8.68-inch screen, built for places where an ordinary tablet would struggle: job sites, workshops, vehicles and trails. It pairs dust and water resistance with a large battery and dual-SIM 4G, so it can stay connected away from Wi-Fi. Here is what its main specs mean.

What the rugged protection covers

Blackview lists the Active 5 as IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H compliant. In general, IP68 means a device is sealed against dust and can be submerged in water under conditions the maker specifies, while IP69K refers to resistance to close-range, high-pressure, high-temperature water jets, the kind of test used for equipment that gets washed down. MIL-STD-810H is a US military test standard covering things like drops, vibration, temperature extremes and humidity. These are laboratory test categories, so it is worth reading the manual for the exact conditions, such as depth, duration and whether port covers must be closed.

The display and glove use

The screen is an 8.68-inch IPS panel at 800 x 1340 resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate. Blackview says it is covered in toughened glass for scratch and impact resistance. A 90Hz panel redraws the image 90 times a second, which typically makes scrolling look smoother than on a 60Hz screen. The brand also lists Glove Mode 2.0 for touch input while wearing gloves, plus Widevine L1, the DRM level that generally allows streaming apps to play in HD.

Processor, memory and storage

Inside is a 12nm Unisoc T615 octa-core chipset with 8GB of physical RAM. Blackview adds 16GB of virtual RAM, which borrows part of the storage to act as extra memory, to reach the "24GB" in the product name. Virtual RAM is typically slower than physical memory, so the 8GB figure is the better guide to multitasking. Storage is 128GB UFS 2.1, expandable up to 2TB with a TF (microSD) card, useful for large drawings, manuals and maps.

Battery and connectivity

The 6600mAh battery is rated by Blackview for up to 22 hours of voice calls, 15 hours of music, 7 hours of video streaming and 360 hours of standby. Those are brand figures from controlled conditions, and real runtime depends on brightness, signal strength and apps. Fast charging is listed, and OTG support lets the tablet power or read from small USB accessories.

For connectivity, the tablet takes two SIMs and supports GSM, WCDMA and LTE networks. The listing says it works with T-Mobile and many international carriers, and that it does not support CDMA carriers such as AT&T. It also lists NFC and GPS.

Cameras and AI tools

There is a 16MP main camera and a 13MP front camera, both recording 1080p video. Blackview lists software features such as Magic Eraser, AI Portrait Light and Sky Replacement, along with a voice-controlled assistant that draws on several AI models, and creative apps for images, video and audio. Availability and behaviour of these tools can vary by region and software update.

Who it suits

The specs point to people who want a tablet that tolerates dust, splashes and knocks: tradespeople, field technicians, delivery or fleet workers, and outdoor enthusiasts who want maps and a camera in a tougher body. Blackview also lists a 24-month warranty.

What to check before you buy

  • Carrier support: confirm your carrier's bands match the listed 2G/3G/4G bands, and note the CDMA exclusion.
  • Size and weight: at 8.6 x 5.1 x 0.5 inches and about 0.7 lb, it is compact for a rugged tablet, but check it suits your mounts or cases.
  • Storage: decide whether 128GB is enough or whether you need to add a TF card.
  • Protection claims: read the manual for the conditions behind the IP and MIL-STD claims.
  • Software: ask how long Android updates are supported if you plan to keep it for years.
